Biography
Captain William Potts was born in 1751, in North Carolina and was residing in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina at the time of the American Revolutionary War. William served as an officer in the Mecklenburg County Militia. Captain Potts is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A091869. DAR records indicate that William died November 29, 1800 in North Carolina and that his wife's name was Lydia McKarahan. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their daughter, Mary Adeline Potts, who married James Potts. [1]

Rev. William Potts, Sr. was born in Rowan County (the part that became Iredell County in 1788), North Carolina in 1751. He died on Nov 20, 1800 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.[2]
Parents: James Potts (1719-1781) and Margaret McKee (1732-1795) or Henry Potts (1727-1775) and Rebecka Mashburn (1725-1788)[3]
