Biography
Maurice MURPHY. [1]Baptised at Oylegate Wexford on 14 Nov 1814, to parents Morris MURPHY and Margaret SYNOTT, sponsors John Stafford and Thomas HAY.[2]
Residing in Ballynastraw at the time of the birth of son Peter, 1846, spouse Sally Green.[3]
The Griffiths Valuation for Wexford was undertaken between 1847-1853. At the time of publication in 1853, two Maurice Murphy's were listed in the area of Glenbrien, one in Ballynastraw and the other in Ballydonfin, which are adjacent townlands. It is presumed these are father and son. Given the occupier in Ballydonfin has land and buildings to the value of 4 pounds, ten shillings is had been assumed this is Maurice snr, with Maurice jnr residing in Ballynastraw, his rateable value only being ten shillings associated with a building and no land, but this is by no means certain. [4]
A death record has now been found for Maurice senior which suggests he was from Ballynastraw, so this Morris is probably the one living at Ballydonfin.
