Richard Albert Marsden was born in about 1823, not in Lancashire. He was the son of Richard Marsden and Theodosia (Brown) Marsden.

By June 6th 1841, Richard and his parents were living in Comb Shop Brow, Eccleston, Lancashire (later known as Croppers Hill.^[1]). They appear to have been in the household of joiner William Henry Varley, perhaps as lodgers or boarders. Richard was a clerk, his father was a painter. ^[2]

Richard died on 28 Apr 1843 in St Helens, aged 20. ^[3] He was buried on 4 May 1843 at St Helens Chapel in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. His age was recorded as 20, and his address as Eccleston. ^{[4] [5]}
