Biography

Elias was born in 1823. He was the son of Richard Marsden and Ellen Hayhurst,

Elias Marsden married Ana E. Rose on 4 May 1848 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.^[2]

Elias Marsden 182[2]-1881

Elias Marsden was born [August 1, 1822], probably in or around Blackburn, England and appears to have come to Batimore in the late 1830's [September 30, 1827]. He was naturalized in 1844 with his uncle James T. Marsden standing as witness for him and in 1850 Elias, in turn, stood as witness for one Isaiah Marsden.^[3]

Elias was a merchant tailor and lived for many years at 206 West Madison Street, and later on Brune Street in Baltimore.^[4] He married Ann Elizabeth Rose in 1848 ^[5] and had a large family . . .

Several real estate transactions are recorded involving Elias and a younger Evan (or Ewen) Marsden, who also came to Baltimore and became a dealer in meal and flour . . . ^[6]

Elias Marsden died in Baltimore, March 12, 1881, at the age of fifty-eight and his wife, Elizabeth, passed away June 18, 1903, at the age of seventy-six; both with other members of their family, are buried in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.^[7] Apparently some members of this branch of the family moved to Washington, D.C. and Washington County, Iowa, because the obituary notice of Elias Marsden carries the special note: "Washington, D.C. and Washington County, Iowa, papers, please copy." ^[8]
