• • Chelsea Elizabeth Manning, dissident, was released on May 17, 2017 after serving seven years toward a 35-year sentence with the possibility of parole in the eighth year at the maximum-security U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. Manning was convicted by court-martial in July 2013 of violations of the Espionage Act and other offenses. ^[1] Her offense was largely disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly three-quarters of a million classified or unclassified but sensitive military and diplomatic documents. She was convicted for stealing government property, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, multiple counts of disobeying orders. Manning - a trans woman - was also dishonorably discharged from the Army. ^[1]
