Biography
William Johnston was born near Philadelphia, Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1748. He emigrated with his brothers to Rowan County, North Carolina in 1759. William moved from Pennsylvania to Iredell County, North Carolina, after receiving land from Lord Granville.[1]
Spouse: Elizabeth Dickey Johnston (1750–1803), married in 1770

- William S. Johnston (1783–1853)
He was related to Gabriel Johnston who was appointed royal governor of the Province of North Carolina in 1734 and whose administration lasted 20 years.
He served as a private in Capt. Martin Pfeifer's 2nd Troop of Light Dragoons, North Carolina Line in the American Revolutionary War.
