He married Martha Mary "Polly" Purviance in 1751 in Rowan County (became Iredell County in 1788), North Carolina. Martha was the daughter of John Purviance and Margaret McKnight. She was born 2: October 14, 1737, in Pennsylvania.

  1. James Ireland, born December 15, 1752 in North Carolina; died August 17, 1826 in Preble County Jefferson Township Ohio.
  2. William Ireland, born October 10, 1754 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died September 02, 1823 in Wayne, Indiana. He married Nancy Alexander on October 22, 1804.
  3. Margaret Ireland, born September 21, 1756 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died Aft. July 10, 1823. She married John James Alexander.
  4. Martha Ireland, born October 13, 1758 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died Bef. July 10, 1823. She married (1) Peter Fleming. She married (2) Robert Adams.
  5. Polly Ireland, born February 24, 1763 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died 1835.
  6. David Ireland, born May 02, 1765 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died February 21, 1847 in Jefferson Township Preble County, Ohio.
  7. Sarah "Sally" Ireland, born March 10, 1766 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died July 23, 1823 in Preble County, Jefferson Township, Ohio. She married Elijah Mitchell November 15, 1785 in Iredell County, North Carolina.
  8. Agnes Ireland, born November 20, 1769 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died Aft. July 10, 1823. She married John Ireland Adams.
  9. Andrew Ireland, born May 06, 1774 in Rowan County, North Carolina; died February 10, 1823 in Preble County, Jefferson Township, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Houston July 29, 1800.

Liz (Noland) Shifflett
Graham-4359 and Ireland-249 do not represent the same person because: daughter of one went to North Carolina, some children of the other went to Pennsylvania. it's possible the daughter of a family that appears to have immigrated to PA met someone born in NC there & went there with him (especially during this period), but the mothers of John are different as well as the LNAB.
