Biography
Mark Haddock was born at on 29 April 1876 at Tullow Street, Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland to former Sergeant Thomas Haddock and his wife Martha (nee Wilson) Haddock. His maternal grandfather, James Wilson, was also a former Sergeant in the Carlow Rifles.
Coincidentally, James Wilson's youngest child, a son named Humphrey Worthington Wilson (Mark's uncle), was born at Carlow on 29 March 1876 and was delivered by the same midwife as Mark (Eliza Brophy).
Although Mark was born in Carlow, by 1879 his family had moved to Belfast, where they settled for the rest of their lives.
Tragically, on Mark's 19th birthday (29 April 1895), his father died. On 12 July the same year Mark married Jane Rosbottom (his age was given as 21, whereas he was in fact only 19) and on Christmas Day their son Thomas James Haddock (named after Mark's late father) was born.
On the 1912 Belfast Street Directory, Mark is listed as a labourer, living at 52 Collyer Street.
Mark died on 14 January 1947, aged 70. He died on Collier Street, Belfast, where he had lived in different houses on the same street, since around 1904.
