Biography
Lorimer Fison was born in Barningham, Suffolk in 1832 to Thomas Fison and Charlotte Reynolds.[1]
He was a student at Caius College, Cambridge in 1855 before being suspended.[2] He travelled to Victoria, Australia where he married Jane Thomas in 1862. They had seven children:
- Jeanette Draper Fison, born 1863;
- Mary Calvert Fison, born 1864;
- Martha Grindrod Fison, born 1867;
- Joseph Lorimer Fison, born 1868;
- William Frederick Fison, born 1869;
- Louis Jane Fison, born 1873;
- Charlotte Anna Fison, born 1873.
Lorimer was ordained a Methodist minister in 1863.[3] He spent several years in Fiji and wrote anthropological works on Fijian and Australian Aboriginal culture, the latter in collaboration with Alfred William Howitt.
Lorimer died in Essendon, Victoria in 1907.[4]
