Biography
John was born at Birmingham, Warwickshire, England in May 1772 . His parents were John Fawkner and Mary (Barnett) Fawkner.
He married Hannah Pascoe, 13 Jan 1792 at Saint Giles Cripplegate, London, England.
John is recorded under the name John Falkner as having been convicted of receiving stolen goods at trial in the London Gaol Delivery Court on the 1 July 1801. He was sentenced to 14 years and transported on the convict ship Calcutta, to Port Philip, part of the Colony of New South Wales (now Melbourne, Victoria, Australia). John's occupation is recorded as metal refiner.
The Calcutta arrived in Port Philip in July 1803. John's wife Hannah Pascoe bought a free settler ticket aboard the same ship, bringing their two children with her.
The inclusion of prisoner's wives and families are referred to in a detailed account of the journey in 'Free settler of Felon - the Convict Ship Calcutta'.
John's biography indicates that this included his two children John and Elizabeth Pascoe.
