In the 1901 census Oswald (age 14) was the boarder of Francis S Lamsbotham in Godalming, Surrey, England.[3]
Oswald married Betty Hobart in 1911 in Tonbridge, Kent. [4] They had two sons, John and Dick. The London Gazette describes him as having died of wounds received whilst serving at the Dardanelles.
"CARVER, Capt. Oswald Armitage. 1st/2nd (East Lancs) Royal Engineers. Died of wounds 7th June 1915. Age 28. Son of Oswald William and Kate Carver, of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire; husband of E A N Carver, of West Runton House, West Runton, Norfolk. A.7." UK Commonwealth War Graves Commission [5]
Probate: "CARVER Oswald Armitage of The Hollies Marple Cheshire died 7 June 1915 at the Dardanelles on active service Administration (with Will) London 21 September to the Public Trustee. Effects £2450 19s 9d." [6]
After his death, Betty married Bernard Montgomery, later Field Marshall Montgomery (Viscount Montgomery of Alamein).
