Wikidata:Usability and usefulness/Item editing experience/Mobile editing of statements
| đ ď¸ Beta Phase: Since April 2026, all datatypes are now supported for mobile editing on Wikidata! |
Overview
editCurrently, itâs not possible to edit Statements on Wikidata Items in the mobile view. This limitation prevents many motivated editors from contributing to Wikidata via mobile devices. This projectâs goal is to give editors an easy and seamless experience when contributing to Wikidata on mobile.
Problems
editMobile Wikidata editors can currently only edit labels, aliases, descriptions and sitelinks. Editors either conclude that they canât edit Statements at all, or they switch to the desktop view, which offers a sub-par experience on mobile.
Project goals
editFor years, editors have been asking to be able to edit statements from mobile devices. This project will make editing statements on Wikidata Items more accessible and user-friendly for mobile users.
- Empower Mobile Editors: Provide a seamless editing experience for mobile users.
- Increase Contributions: Remove barriers to mobile editing, increasing edits and contributors from mobile devices.
- Align with Community Needs: Address long-standing requests for mobile editing capabilities.
How you can test it
edit- Enable the Beta feature: Go to your Preferences --> Beta features --> check "Edit Wikidata Items on mobile devices" and save.
- Try mobile editing: Visit the Wikidata Item Wikidata Sandbox (Q4115189) on your mobile device (or use mobile view on your desktop)
- Test the edits: Try editing statements with any datatype.
- Share your feedback: Tell us what works, what doesnât, and what youâd like to see next on the project discussion page: Wikidata talk:Usability and usefulness/Item editing experience/Mobile editing of statements
Join our user testing panel and help improve mobile editing for everyone
editWe are planning new deep testing sessions for late April to early May. We're looking for volunteers of all experience levels, especially less experienced editors and users of RTL scripts (eg. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu). Sessions are typically held via video call where youâll try editing different datatypes and share your impressions with the team. Sign up to join the mobile testing panel, and we'll share details closer to the sessions.
