A 2026 civil society declaration on Sustainable Development Goal 16 calls on governments to make the UN more representative, participatory and democratic, including through consideration of creating a UN parliamentary body. A UN Parliamentary Assembly is a proposal included in the "We The Peoples" platform.

The Global Solidarity Report 2026 finds renewed support for global citizenship and international cooperation after years of decline. Across 31 countries, more respondents identify as world citizens, support tax contributions to global problem-solving, and back stronger international institutions with enforcement powers. “The public mood is moving and the question is whether internationalists can seize the opportunity”, the report says.
