Content discussing the rapture as presented in Christianity has begun to trend on TikTok and other social media platforms, as a religious conspiracy that predicted a looming judgment day makes digital rounds. A video clip of A South African pastor named Joshua Mhlakela claiming to have visualized Jesus returning on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, celebrated this Monday through Wednesday (Sept. 22-24). The interview where the alleged prophecy was revealed was conducted with CettwinzTV.
“The rapture is upon us, whether you are ready or not,” exclaimed Mhlakela. “God took me to see the future…and there in heaven, in the throne room, I see Jesus sitting… and I could hear him very loud and clear saying, ‘I am coming soon.’”
“To the people that are listening, please pay attention to what I am going to say,” as he continued to predict Jesus’s return “on the 23rd and 24th of September 2025.”
As the ominous clip made its way across social media platforms, many users on TikTok shared various reactions to the religious message. Some users took the pastor’s words seriously. According to LAD Bible, a person sold their car while others quit their jobs, relating to Mhlakela’s word.
Others pulled out the cameras to make comical content regarding the looming doomsday. “RaptureTok” quickly became a meme, with users making parody-style clips discussing religion, practitioners of the Christian faith who believe the end is near, and additional content surrounding the trending topic.
Users across X also got in on the conversation, with messaging regarding the end of the world. Take a look at the posts shared across both social media platforms below.
