Arredondo to lead school PD

SELECTION FORMERLY served as assistant chief of Uvalde Police Department.

Following a brief closed session on Thursday evening, the board of trustees of Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District approved the assignment of Uvalde High School Class of 1990 graduate Pedro “Pete” Arredondo as the district’s new chief of police.

Following the unanimous vote, he was sworn in by Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell.

Arredondo has 27 years of active law enforcement experience and joins the district from Laredo United Independent School District where he served as captain.

His previous experience includes serving in the Uvalde Police Department, where he advanced to the rank of assistant chief of police and the Webb County Sheriff’s office.

“We are confident with our selection and impressed with his experience, knowledge and community involvement,” said UCISD Superintendent Hal Harrell.

“Chief Arredondo is well versed in the expanded expectations in student and school safety and will stay current as changes occur.”

His first day with the district will be Monday, March 2.

Arredondo is replacing Leo Flores, who resigned from his position in January after leading the campus police force for less than two years.
