Started reading Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, and the narrator wasting no time imagining Mr. De Winter in a shirt hemmed with lace (and a vampiric beard) like some random old portrait she once saw and became fixated on while he lights his cigarette is so very real, and I felt very seen.
