my old man is a tough man but he’s got a soul as sweet as blood-red jam & he shows me, he knows me, every inch of my tar black soul!!!!
Pairing: bodyguard!Sammy Bryant x F!Reader Summary: Sammy picks up bodyguarding jobs to make ends meet to take care of his son. The last thing he expects is to gain a new headache looking after you, a high profile actress that wants nothing to do with him. WC: ~8.2K Warnings: 18+ smut so mdni (pinv, oral m!receiving), mentions of a stalker, no use of y/n, the LAPD, Sammy's POV, fluff, longing, angst, & not totally proofread. A/N: been on hiatus and a little out of practice but enjoy!
Sammy was an exhausted mess of nerves and concern. The job took grit, and pride, if anyone was brave enough to admit it. Nate ultimately was his motivation and, ironically, Tammi’s nonsense. His lack of sleep was beginning to catch up to him with the gig looking after a popstar as her bodyguard. It was amusing, but he was working double shifts that meant far less sleep. Fighting for custody was getting to him, too, scraping away at any decent part of him while wishing Tammi would just drop dead altogether.
Then, he had to go and be there in the right place at the right time ‘protecting’ a young, drunk singer and her friends—protecting the public, actually, he would say—from a shooter, and the paparazzi went into a frenzy. Since then, he disliked being hounded. He didn’t know how any celebrity could stand the attention, but he realized quickly that they likely didn’t. In the same way, he only wanted to do his job and be left alone. But, then came the speculation that Sammy was dating his boss.
Despite the spectacle, your team still requested him. He found out that morning through the agency he was working with that he was needed for a red carpet event for a movie premiere. From hotel to car to the event, and back to the hotel. A simple job, he thought, until he read the terms that demanded he work for you as a trial period of three months prior to the actual showcase. The pay alone made him believe he could stick out on losing a bit more sleep, but it was easy to make the choice from the comfort of his couch.
Three months and a shitload of money.
What could it hurt?

𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑦: you'd do anything to have your husband Andrew be rough with you in the bedroom— and if that means taking off your wedding ring, pretending to be a maid that cleans the house for him and acting like you don’t want him to touch you because his "wife" hired you? you're more than happy to play along.

Your husband was not an outwardly adventurous person.
Trying new things that would have him interacting with others, stepping out of the comfort zone he's perfected or pretending to be interested in something he's not; has never been his strong suit.
You had never really considered yourself a very venturesome person either. At least not until you met him, that is.
I can't help but love picturing Baby daddy Pope just driving everyone nuts with finding his baby mama and baby to the point he's trying to force answers out of everyone and make his brothers help him.
the first couple days after you had disappeared, pope slept less than he usually did. not because he was out working, not because there was a job lined up, not because he was worried about any of the usual things that kept him awake at night. he was awake because every time he would close his eyes, he pictured the empty apartment. the bare windows, the missing toys, the eerie emptiness of it. the realization kept hitting him over, and over, and over. you hadn't told him you were leaving or where you were going.
he started with phone calls, then texts, then more phone calls. his call log was absolutely insane and his phone stayed hot from how much was on it. you didn't answer a single one of his calls, which only hurt him more. he continued to leave voicemails anymore. some were angry, some were pleading, some were so quiet that you could barely hear him breathing before he hung up. "just tell me she's okay," was the one sentence he repeated in every one of his voicemails. he didn't care if you hated him, didn't care if you told him he was a terrible person, he just needed to know where you and your daughter were. the problem was that pope had never been particularly good at accepting things he couldn't control, and this was something he absolutely couldn't control.
by the third day, he had drove past your old apartment six times while they were on a job. "you're creeping out the new tenants," craig snapped at him, the small family who was moving in looking slightly uneasy every time the blacked out truck passed by. he simply ignored his brother, something that was becoming more frequent. back home he stood in the middle of the living room staring at his phone like it was the thing that betrayed him. his hair was a disheveled mess, his shirt was wrinkled, and there was dark circles that surrounded his eyes. "you call again?" deran mumbled from the couch where he and craig sat watching the older man. pope only sighed, his fingers still angrily texting on his phone. "so that's a yes," deran spoke again, running a hand over his face.
pope's head was quick to snap in their direction, marching to stand in front of where they sat on the couch. "she has my kid," he spoke, his jaw clenched so tight it looked as though it could explode. "yeah, we know," craig muttered, fiddling with the joint he had been rolling. "then help me," pope spoke again, hand holding his phone tightly to his side. the two could only look at each other before back at pope. there was something different about his expression. usually when he got obsessed with something, there was an unsettling calmness to him. this wasn't calm. he looked terrified.
"i need to find them," pope said again, softer this time as he sat down, face buried in his hands. "maybe she doesn't want you to find her," deran suggested a little, pope shaking his head as he stared at the ground. "i don't care," he shot back quickly, pulling his phone back out again to send you another string of texts. "yeah that's kind of the problem," craig mumbled, shaking his head as he lit the joint. "this is my daughter and mother of my child we are talking about. i need to know they're safe," pope muttered again, eyes never leaving his phone screen in hopes that he would see you typing or even reading the messages. nothing.
your family lived hours away, your only few friends were the others in the cody family, so they had no where to even start looking. for the next week, the bothers were slowly driven insane. pope made everyone look. he called people he hadn't spoken to in years, he drove around neighborhoods he never had a reason to visit, he checked every apartment complex he knew of. he asked question, too many questions. he would force himself to sit at the table for hours with papers scattered everywhere from when the two of you were together. old addresses, names, possible apartments, notes about places you had mentioned casually months ago. he was piecing your life together from tiny things he had once ignored. you once complained about traffic in a particular neighborhood, you mentioned wanting somewhere quieter, you said you liked being close enough to the beach to walk.
pope was remembering everything now. every insignificant conversation, every passing comment, every place you said looked nice. he wished desperately he had been listening when it mattered. it was nicky who finally gave them something useful. she wasn't even looking for you, just casually mentioned hearing you talking about a particular apartment complex. it wasn't in oceanside but it wasn't far away either. pope completely froze as he stood at the counter, quickly turning to face her. "what are you talking about?" he spoke quickly, everyone freezing to look between them. "that apartment she was complaining about that one time to you. she said everything was too expensive and you said you knew someone who lived over there," she shrugged, pope immediately opening his phone.
he sat it in front of her, open on the gps app, before pointing for her to type at him. she only rolled her eyes a little, looking over the map a little before she was typing it in. he was quick to snatch it from her, grabbing his jacket. "let's go," he mumbled to his brothers, throwing the keys at craig. "wait. we don't know if they are there and if they are, you can't just show up," deran spoke as they stood, pope's expression hardening more. "i'm not going there to hurt her. i am going to see my daughter," he sighed, raising his eyebrows at them. the two looked between each other before back at pope, nodding before following him outside.
the apartment complex was only 30 minutes away. pope barely spoke the whole drive, just sitting in the passenger seat with his hands held tightly together in his lap as he stared out the window. for once, he wasn't thinking about what he was going to say. he didn't have some carefully planned explanation, he didn't have an excuse, he didn't even know if you'd open the door. he only knew that if he saw his daughter, he wanted to hold her so tight. that was all.
he immediately spotted your car parked in front of one of the apartments, hand slamming on the dashboard. "that's it," he mumbled and pointed, craig parking next to it. the truck barely had time to stop before pope was already out and walking towards the front door. craig and deran were following behind, keeping a small distance to try and not completely overwhelm you. as soon as he reached the door he raised his hand and hesitated, before he gave in and was knocking. nothing. he knocked again, finger finding the doorbell. his heart was pounding as he heard shuffling coming from inside, the door opening a few inches.
your face appeared in the small crack of the door, a small frown on your face. your hair was a mess, you were in pajamas that you look like you had worn for days, and you looked beyond tired. behind you, a small cry rang out, your eyes shutting for a moment before looking between the three men. "what are you doing here?" you mumbled in disbelief, craig and deran taking a small step back. pope looked straight past you into the dark of your apartment, hoping to just get a glimpse of your daughter. you knew exactly what he wanted as he looked behind you, closing the door just a tiny bit to hopefully obstruct his view.
"she was asleep. she needs sleep," you mumbled, your expression hard and stern as you stared at him. your grip was tight on the door, eyes never leaving his. "can i see her?" he spoke quietly, fingers twitching at his sides. "i know i don't deserve it but please. i just want to see my baby," he spoke quietly again, his voice cracking with pure desperation. behind him, craig and deran looked away because suddenly this wasn't their problem anymore, this was between you two. all you could do was consider to stare at him with that tired deadpan look on your face.
and for the first time since he'd found you, you could see just how badly this had broken him.
"we saw you from across the room." 😏
Animal Kingdom 1.05 | Flesh is Weak Shawn Hatosy as Andrew "Pope" Cody
Thinking about sammy bryant (season 1 ofcourse) where he crawls into bed after a seemingly never ending shift and gives you puppy eyes. "Hm...you wanna go get some food?" He'd ask, raising a mischievous brow. He loved the drive around through town, even when it was late, even when he probably should just be sleeping ready for tommorow.
But sammys goofy, and silly and stupid. So he pulls up at the 24/7 drive thru getting some fries for you, a burger, some milkshakes and whatever else he decided to buy.
His love language is acts of service and gift giving :(
