gracerocky but they skip the dating stage entirely because they're so in love with each other. grace confesses his feelings one day impulsively and rocky immediately jumps to, "what are human marriage customs, question? tell rocky now now NOW."
alternatively, angst variant: rocky's so insistent on them getting married because grace isn't so sure he's going to be alive by the time they make it to erid
adrian being indifferent. adrián being so good at mediating conflicts between rocky and grace, because they're unable to fully immerse themself emotionally in things, even when the fights are between those two. adrian, who seems to have it all figured out and always has a smile on their face, but who can’t help feeling a little left aside because they simply can’t feel with the same intensity that their lovers seem to be capable of.

i have to anon... i can't stand for misrepresentation of my grocky... i write like a million paragraphs of them being so utterly devoted with each other with romantic intent tagged with all three of their ship tags and people will STILL construe them as platonic...
gracerocky but crank the soulmatisms up. why stop at the petrova line being their string of fate? think of the stars dying so they can meet. think of adrian's atmosphere setting the ship on fire just so they can touch. think of the taumoeba leaking just so they can reunite.
think of how the very paths of their lives were made to converge from the very start. it can't be coincidence. a scientist and an engineer, two occupations perfectly poised to cover for each other's weaknesses in their mission to save the stars.
think of how humans have a deeper understanding of theoretical physics while eridians have are more advanced in material science. think of how even their species reflect how grace and rocky are mirrors of each other, two broken halves slotting together perfectly.
think of how xenonite functions perfectly fine in earth's atmosphere, despite the sheer difference from erid's atmosphere. a miracle material that allows both grace and rocky to coexist and eventually touch, like it was created for this specific purpose.
think of how grace's background as a teacher was necessary for him to be able to communicate with rocky. because he's used to explaining concepts in simpler ways to people who have never heard of them before, and he's learned to be very patient with it too.
think of how rocky's isolation drove him to desperate measures, so much so that he would do anything to make this partnership with grace work. because he's always trying to bridge the gap between them, even mimicking grace's mannerisms just to make things easier for him.
think of how neither of them could've done this mission alone. think of how there have been billions of years since the creation of the universe and there are trillions of miles of space between them and yet they still ended up at the right time and place to meet each other.
think of how grace could sit down, and rocky is the right height to be at his eye level. think of how rocky fits perfectly in the space between grace's arms.
think of how they were made to be with each other, in every way, shape, and form. a pair of lovers, ordained by fate and brought together by the cosmos.

unpopular opinion but i feel like a lot of people forget that grace and rocky's relationship technically has questionable ethics just because they're sweet with each other. grace's survival on erid depends entirely on the eridians; he is not on equal footing with any of them.
also we have to acknowledge that with the circumstances of grace and rocky's first meeting, they literally had no one else to cling to but each other. there IS romance in that. a very good romance, actually. but their strong bond was very much forged under extreme conditions.
that's not to say grace and rocky have a toxic relationship. toxic =/= unhealthy, and even then i would be remiss to say that their love for each other manifests in unhealthy ways. but i do think it's a point of contention that we ought to explore more; it's very interesting!
this is why i'm quite surprised when people say they have a healthy relationship and also call them codependent in the same breath. by definition, codependency is unhealthy! it's not an ideal situation to be in. still, this is exactly what makes their dynamic so compelling!
to me, the entire point of gracerocky is that, even stripped down to their barest and most vulnerable parts, people WILL find each other. it may be ugly and awkward at first, but love can blossom under the harshest circumstances. like a flower growing from a crack in concrete.
yes, gracerocky has questionable ethics. yes, gracerocky has unhealthy circumstances. yes, gracerocky falls under social taboo. remember: interspecies relationships with non-humanoid beings is still widely considered weird and out of the ordinary by most people.
and those. are. okay! those things make their relationship unique and interesting! gracerocky isn't entirely sunshine and rainbows, because they are complex characters that have been put in an extreme situation. that's something i feel we should acknowledge more.
i'm not asking for people to make them toxic. i'm not saying people shouldn't ship them either (that would be very ironic). i just want to inspire more nuanced discussions around their dynamics that aren't immediately shut down by the fact that they have a good relationship.
