Explanation
The racial and ethnic makeup of Thurston County continues to become more diverse. In 2020, 29% of Thurston County residents identified as a person of color. Those who identified as either Asian alone or multiracial (two or more races) comprised the largest minority groups.
The Chehalis and Nisqually Reservations are the most diverse communities in the region. Lacey continues to be the most diverse of Thurston County's cities and towns, with 40% identifying as a person of color.
The Hispanic and Latine population in Thurston County, which may include persons of any race, is also increasing, growing from 5% in 2000 to 10% in 2020.
Person of Color
TRPC defines “person of color” as anyone included in Census Bureau counts of Black or African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian or Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, Some Other Race, or Hispanic or Latine population either alone or in combination with another race or ethnicity.
