In Brief
Researchers evaluated the safety and effectiveness of initiating physical therapy on the day of surgery (POD0) compared with postoperative day 1 (POD1) after single-level lumbar fusion. They found that initiating physical therapy on POD0 significantly reduced hospital length of stay and increased the likelihood of discharge home without increasing complications, readmissions, or reoperations. This study provides large-cohort evidence supporting that same-day mobilization as a safe, efficient postoperative strategy after lumbar fusion.

In Brief
The objective of this study was to determine whether invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, is associated with improved 30-day survival in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. The authors found significantly lower 30-day mortality in ICP-monitored patients, including after propensity score matching, with low complication rates from use of the monitoring device. This study provides robust low- and middle-income country, real-world outcome data supporting protocol-based neuromonitoring to guide timely escalation and reduce preventable deaths.
