Like nearly all other Nyctaginaceae, the fruit is an achene, surrounded by an "anthocarp," a persistent accessory fruit that develops from the lower part of the
uniseriate perianth.
Abdomen: tergites not divided, medial sternites with very thin medial suture line; sclerites
uniseriate. Tergal chaetotaxy: [male] (WM 2522.03002), 2: 4: 6: 8: 9: 11 10: 9: 9: 9 (including 2 tactile setae): 7: 2; holotype [female], 2: 4: 5: 7: 9: 10: 9: 9: 10: 8: 7: 2.
Within the perithecia paraphyses and hyaline, cylindrical asci containing 8 ascospores in
uniseriate disposition, were also observed.
In radial longitudinal section (RLS), 25-30 [micro]m diameter tracheids exhibit
uniseriate or biseriate, contiguous bordered pitting (borders: 15 [micro]m diameter, apertures: 7 [micro]m diameter; Fig.
For example, we tend to accept that the almost exclusive presence of
uniseriate rays in conifers has a selective value.
Rays were heterogeneus and
uniseriate, with body composed of procumbent cells, and margins of erect and squared cells.
The primary root is diarch (Figure 2C,D), and consists of
uniseriate epidermis with rectangular, oval and obovate cells.
Setae and setulae on thorax black; h absent, 2 long strong npl; hair-like acr biseriate; hair-like dc
uniseriate except only 1 posteriormost dc slightly long, 1 psa; scutellum with 8 marginal setulae (2 setulae between sc) and 2 long sc.
The petiole is coated with an
uniseriate epidermis (Figure 4A) slightly papilosous (Figure 4B), with internal and external periclinal walls remarkably thick in all species (Figure 4C).
