Her white blood cell count was 13.640/[mm.sup.3], with 76%
polymorphonuclear leukocytes and 18% lymphocytes.
Considering these results with the changes in blood leukocytes, in which was an increase in total leukocyte and in subpopulation of
polymorphonuclear leucocytes when compared to the baseline count, it confirms that both concentration of adjuvant effectively established experimental model, which presented different ways of development of adjuvant-induced arthritis (Figure 3).
Immune complex deposition in small vessels leads to complement fixation and
polymorphonuclear leukocyte activation.
The patients with aseptic meningitis may present with a predominance of
polymorphonuclear leukocytes in the CSF during the first 24 hours of illness, thus making difficult to distinguish aseptic meningitis from bacterial meningitis.
Other laboratory findings included hemoglobin, 7.6 g/dL; white cell count, 10,360/[mm.sup.3] (
polymorphonuclear leukocyte count of 9,220/[mm.sup.3]; lymphocyte count of 932/[mm.sup.3]); and platelet count, 356,000/[mm.sup.3].
Histopathology of orbital myositis, also known as "idiopathic inflammatory orbital syndrome", reveals mixed inflammation consisting of fibrosis in various degrees, plasma cells, lymphocytes, macrophages, and
polymorphonuclear leukocytes (3).
The percentage of asthmatic children with [RV.sup.+] who had increased
polymorphonuclear leucocytes was significantly higher than that in asthmatic children with [RV.sup.-] (92.1% and 76.2% versus 69.2% and 59.6%; P < 0.01 and P < 0.05, resp.; Table 2; Figure 1).

polymorphonuclear leukocytes," Infection and Immunity, vol.
Right, Lung cells with intraalveolar exudate containing macrophages and
polymorphonuclear leukocytes after infection with Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease.
It dropped as low as 15,000 on day 6 but is now 25,000, with 23,000
polymorphonuclear leukocytes (10% band forms).
It uses mainly clinical findings and laboratory values (i.e., migration of pain, anorexia, nausea and/or vomiting, right lower quadrant tenderness, rebound, elevation of temperature [greater than or equal to]37.3[degrees]C, leukocytosis [greater than or equal to]10x[10.sup.3]/[mm.sup.3], and
polymorphonuclear neutrophilia [greater than or equal to]75%) to assess the presence of AA (3) (Table 1).
