Sinter of
harmotome, a zeolite produced by hydrothermal alteration of igneous rocks around 200[degrees]C [84], surrounds the hot springs and cavities.
Other than
harmotome, brewsterite-Ba is the only barium-dominant zeolite known from the Grenville Province.
Older classification used the name wellsite for a mineral with an intermediate chemical composition between phillipsite and
harmotome.
These biggies included matlockite, greenockite,
harmotome, susannite, and others from Scottish localities.
Harmotome is extremely rare at the Francon quarry, known from only a few confirmed specimens.
Examples of first-rate Scottish zeolites in the two cases included very large specimens of basalt plates and open tubes lined with lustrous white stilbite "bowties" to 5 cm, thick coverages of lustrous white and colorless chabazite rhombs to 3 cm on matrix, perfect glassy analcime trapezohedrons to 2.5 cm sitting straight up on white calcite druses over basalt, red heulandite and blocky white hydroxylapophyllite crystals in stately groups, and, of course, the classic
harmotome from Strontian, in magnificent crystal clusters with individuals to 3 cm across.

Species confirmed by X-ray diffraction during this study include alstonite, anglesite, ankerite, aragonite, barytocalcite, barite, brochantite, epsomite,
harmotome, hydromagnesite, jarosite, marcasite, melanterite, millerite, serpierite, siderite, sulfur and witherite.
a collecting effort in May 1998 at the Whitesmith Workings, Beinn Resipol, Strontian, Argyll, Scotland, yielded some spectacular specimens of
harmotome from this famous locality for this rare zeolite species.

Specially notable are microcrystals of samsonite, pyrostilpnite and pyrargyrite, large masses of alabandite, crude pinkish gray crystals of wenkite up to 1 cm and apophyllite in colorless to white crystals up to 2 cm, rarely associated with white
harmotome crystals of the same size.
