Mr Rodriguez Saa was chosen unanimously on Friday by the
Peronists to take over from Senate leader Ramon Puerta, who was serving as acting president for 48 hours while congressional leaders sought a replacement, but the session that began on Saturday night dragged on past dawn yesterday as legislators negotiated the length of his term and an election date.
Peronists, who ruled Argentina for most of the last decade under President Carlos Menem, said presidential elections should be held within 90 days but appeared to disagree over who should run the country until then.
