Other biblical passages that reflect the relational context of emotions include Hannah's grief over her barrenness and treatment by her rival (1 Sam 1:8), Ahasuerus' anger when snubbed by his queen (Esth 1:12), the abandonment experienced by the psalmist as a result of God's perceived absence (Ps 22:1), and the surprise experienced by the disciples when Jesus went outside the bounds of cultural convention (John 4:27).
