This leads directly into the Left-Hegelian projectionist thesis which, for Desmond, is based on Hegel's erroneous reduction of identity-formation, be that divine or human, to "erotic sovereignty." He notes, in this context, that the Hegelian account of the self-return of the serf via its serf-giving to the other is contrary to the gratuitous and nondialectical giving of the serf that characterizes love as apage.
