Though it may feel like we’ve already watched and rewatched The Devil Wears Prada 2, considering all the on-set photos that have come out, it’s somehow still another month until the movie actually hits theaters. In the lead-up to the film’s release on May 1, Anne Hathaway is on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar talking about what it was like making the movie 20 years after the original film came out. A lot has changed since then, but at least one thing has stayed markedly similar: how thinness is held in high esteem, particularly in the fashion world.
While working on the movie, Hathaway and her co-star Meryl Streep went to Milan Fashion Week. At a fashion show there, Streep told Harper’s she was “struck” by how “alarmingly thin the models were. “I thought that all had been addressed years ago,” she said.
Apparently, “Annie clocked it too,” Streep said, and she quickly took action. “She made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal!” Streep said. “She’s a stand-up girl.” We’ll find out soon if those producers listened — do you think the Runway fashion closet stocks above a size 6 these days?
