Cocoon is a relatively new French band that performs in English. There’s a kind of intimacy to their music that is often missing in American music. It’s the kind of intimacy that easily carries over to an entire performance. The best way to see this band is not at a large arena, but in a smaller space that allows the kind of imtimacy the band obviously wants to create.
Mark Daumail is the kind of lead singer who can easily work a crowd, earn their trust and turn it quickly into something approximating love. It’s an easy thing to get an audience to snap their fingers, but it’s not always easy to get them to like it. Daumail is the kind of person who can do that. He’s got that kind of easy, laid-back demeanor that wins a crowd over.
The music is slow and easy. You’re not going to be thrashing in the aisles at a concert by this group, but you’re definitely going to be moved. Cocoon’s songs inspire emotions, and you’re going to feel it. There are no big effects here, no large set pieces to wow the audience or inspire awe. Cocoon creates its performances in the space between the music, the vocals, and the audience’s ears.
