Selena Gomez’s Wedding Guest List Has Everyone Questioning One Major Absence

Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco looked like it was a day of her dreams, but there are still questions about her guest list.

It’s known why Travis Kelce and Meryl Streep couldn’t attend, but fans are questioning why Gomez’s longtime BFF Francia Raísa didn’t seem to be in attendance. If that name sounds familiar to you, it should. The Grown-ish star donated her kidney to the 33-year-old actress in the summer of 2017, who was suffering from the complications of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease where your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs, according to the Mayo Clinic.

After the surgery, Gomez shared sweet snapshot of her and Raísa holding hands while in adjacent hospital beds. “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis,” she wrote in the caption.

Raísa also shared the same photo with an uplifting message. “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process,” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post. “This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.”

The women had a falling out in 2022, but it had nothing to do with the organ transplant — it was over Gomez’s 2022 Apple TV+ documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. The documentary chronicled her health journey, personal life, and rise to fame, yet it didn’t mention Raísa’s huge gift in the film.
“We didn’t talk for a year after that whole situation with her documentary happened,” Raísa told Today in October 2023.

Things only got worse when Gomez told Rolling Stone that Taylor Swift was her “only friend in the industry.” Needless to say, Raísa was hurt. “I’ll be honest, we didn’t speak for a year. I just was like, ‘I need my space,’” she added. While an unexpected birthday post in 2023 from Gomez seemed to thaw the rift, it now appears that the women are no longer close.

While Gomez’s family and friends were partying in Santa Barbara, California, over the weekend, Raísa posted a dancing video on Instagram with former Dancing With the Stars pro Sasha Farber. The comments soon took off with questions about her attendance at Gomez’s big day.

One follower questioned, “Did you make it to the wedding?” Another fan chimed in, “u should be the guest of honour at least in that wedding, you are her hero.” One commenter summed up, “Yup, had to make a post today so people will know that you were not there…”

So, Raísa was not included in Gomez’s major life milestone. Their situation remains complicated because of the kidney transplant, but it’s also a reminder that some friendships are for only certain seasons in life.
