Hi from Paris, my wife & I just joined! 🥐

Hi everyone!

So my wife and I just made this account together, we're a couple from Paris, France ๐Ÿฅ
We are both readers and (hopefully!) writers, in either French or English and we're excited to explore stories here. While we each have our own favorites, we're pretty open to a lot of genres such as sci-fi, fantasy, litRPG, thriller, horror, mystery, you name it.

We've already poked around a bit and I tried publishing a short story (same story, 2 translations French and English) just to get a feel for how the process works.

Outside of reading/writing, we're into photography, board/video games, Legos, old castles and honestly a bunch of random stuff.

If you have any tips for getting the most out of Royal Road, whether as a reader following series, or as a writer trying to find their footing, we'd love to hear them.
Looking forward to discovering great stories and hopefully sharing some of our own.

Happy to meet you all!

Hello! Welcome and enjoy the wild ride.

My tip is don't be afraid to engage in the forums. A lot of times I've stuck to writing my own stuff because of all the positive vibes and encouragement from the forums.
Don't worry too much about views, followers or comments, at least for the first 4 months or so.

Posting here is a marathon not a sprint. Patience is required especially if you aren't writing LitRPG or another popular genre.

Happy writing! ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท

Everything said above is spot on. Do it for the love and be patient with the experience. There are some truly great people in these forums who can offer help or guidance as you figure out this playground. As a reader, I've find the best stories here in the forums. You can tell a lot about a writer's abilities by how they engage here. But that's what works for me. Explore have fun and when you're ready, share your creativity with us! UV21

The Shattering Point [Slow Progression Pre-LitRPG Era]

Quote:"You agreed to this name when first you took it for your own. You agreed to this name when you raped the land, ravaged its resources, abandoned its people to cry and starve and die! You agreed to this name when you brought such terror upon a generation that it was used to frighten children into uneasy slumber! You agreed to this name in blood, Katernar'an, and you shall not deny it now!"
Ah, interesting.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice!
Weโ€™ll definitely try to get involved in the forums rather than just lurking around ๐Ÿ˜„
I have a few short stories to share, it doesnโ€™t seem to be the most popular format here ๐Ÿ˜„
But we also want to write a story together and get some feedback on it.
As long as we can share our creativity, thatโ€™s all that matters.
Thanks again ๐ŸŒท

Welcome! Happy to have you.

I hope you two have a good time on Royal Road :) Hereโ€™s my humble advice:

As readers, I encourage you to interact with other peopleโ€™s stories the way you hope they will interact with yours.

As writers, I encourage you to check out the โ€œGuides by the Communityโ€ subforum. Thereโ€™s also a pinned megathread of resources for new writers on the RR subreddit, if you use Reddit. You may have to dig a little in each, but thereโ€™s some nice wisdom for launching and marketing your stories (which is the more difficult half of publishing online, arguably).

Wishing you both the best of luck!

Everything I know is in the beginners guide linked in my sig. Though I find word of mouth is a good way to find great things to read, so check out the recommendations sub-forum (there will be self promo though unless the OP says not to do that) to find stories based on various preferences.

Welcome both!

So glad to have you both on RR. I hope that your work gets lots of views and interaction. All of the above is really good advice. If I can add a small thing, add your story to your signature, found at the bottom of your posts, so others can see it.

You can do it like this:
Settings -> Forum -> Edit Signature -> Generate for my Fictions

Also, none of this... photography, board/video games, Legos and old castles is random. It's awesome! I should know, I do it all too.
