Old antagonist characters that are also mentors to one of the main characters.
I've written two so far, and I feel kinda bad repeating it even though it's such a good trope.

Detached smartasses who intellectualize everything. Feels almost inescapable that one would lead to more, who else is going to be able to stand them.

Grumpy and sassy red-headed awkward lesbians who like to use swords. Its happened at least four times now and I don't even notice until I'm a few chapters in

Hmm...
If I had to pick... a character with a tragic past that doesn't like to talk about it. Although, I'm doing pretty good lately writing characters who are very different, but there's usually one of those tragic-dark-past guys.
