Beyond all the opinions it's very simple. If you making a movie about a millennia old story and you feel the need to change it you are wrong. If the story needed fixing somewhere in the 10's of hundreds of years its been told it would have been. Your just corrupting the story looking for personal gain, pushing a narrative, don't care about the material, or some combination of the three. Yes race and or gender swapping is changing the story after all men are told not to speak on women's affairs and white people not to talk when a black person talks about what they experienced how is this any different
