Rutgers' Devin McCourty, Anthony Davis and Tim Brown earn all-Big East honors

Already feeling disrespected because of its bowl assignment, Rutgers has reason to feel that way even more after the all-Big East teams were announced today.

Offensive tackle Anthony Davis and cornerback Devin McCourty were the only Scarlet Knights to earn first-team all-Big East honors, as voted on by the league coaches, with wide receiver Tim Brown being named to the second team.

That means Rutgers, which led the Big East in scoring defense (17.4 ppg) and total defense (312.2 yards per game), managed to land just one defensive player on the two all-conference teams.

Only Louisville, which tied for last, had fewer overall players named to the all-conference teams.

The Scarlet Knights, 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the Big East, face Central Florida in the second-year St. Petersburg Bowl a week from Saturday -- a game that falls in the middle of the school's exam period.

McCourty was also a candidate for Big East Special Teams Player of the Year but lost out to Cincinnati's Mardy Gilyard.

Pittsburgh freshman Dion Lewis, who prepped last year at Blair Academy, was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Pittsburgh teammates Greg Romeus and Mick Williams shared the Defensive Player of the Year award while Brian Kelly, who led Cincinnati to a 12-0 regular season and into the Sugar Bowl, was the Coach of the Year for the third straight season.

The league also named the late Jasper Howard, the Connecticut cornerback and punt returner who was slain on campus during the season, as the honorary captain for all of the Big East teams.

Overall, Pittsburgh placed 10 players on the first team offense and defense compared to five for league champion Cincinnati. The Panthers also took three of the four individual awards.
