Sonic Unleashed
(2008 on
Xbox 360,
PlayStation 3, 2018 on
Xbox One)
Description
In this version of Sonic Unleashed Eggman manages to defeat Sonic, using the tremendous power of the Chaos Emeralds to entrap him. The sheer force of the attack had also broken down the planet into pieces, and released the mysterious dark creature called Dark Gaia from within the depths. Eggman then leaves Sonic trapped along on the broken planet, along with the now-drained Chaos Emeralds. It is now up to Sonic to retrieve and recharge the drained Chaos Emeralds, save the planet, recapture Dark Gaia, and defeat Eggman for good.
The game features both daytime levels, which focuses on Sonic's overdrive speed, and nighttime levels, which are more combat-focused, as Sonic transforms into a fearsome-looking yet powerful Werehog beast, as a side-effect of the Chaos Emerald attack he had suffered from.
The PS2 and Wii versions feature an almost completely new mix of levels as well as a different game engine.

The Good
I heard that Sonic Unleashed was supposed to be Sonic's best game in years. Well, I guess that only applies to the Xbox 360 version (which I haven't played) because this version SUCKS!
It isn't...bad. It's just not what I expected. It can be fun. I...really can't say anything else good. Except the music!
The Bad
Let's start with the gameplay. Sonic's "handling" is very awkward in the day time missions. The camera angle is very awkward, too. The whole game is kind of clunky in a way. As for the night missions, I have no clue why everyone made a big deal about it. I know it's Sonic, so he should go fast, but the whole situation is still far overblown.
The graphics, of the 4 versions, are the worst on the PS2. Since I'm not a graphics whore, I won't make a big deal out of it. Just thought I'd throw it in there.
The voice acting, blah blah blah Jason Griffin sucks. Also, Chips kind of annoying. And Eggman...ugh..... Why is Sega turning him into Goofy? How did he go from Sonic Adventure 2 to THIS?!
Like I said, the music is good, but the vocal songs...not nearly so. Endless Possibilities I can tolerate, but that other song (My Dear Friend) is sappy as hell. I almost glad Chip died...
Oh, and the story. Yeah, pretty much the same story as usual except for the Werehog. Blegh.
The Bottom Line
Overall, this game was a BIG letdown. And I mean HUGE! Don't buy it unless you love Sonic.
I'm going to try and play the Xbox 360 version.
