Cameron Quarry, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada

A particularly nice specimen showing sharp mauve spinel octahedra up to 7mm across with rounded, orange chondrodite crystals to 8mm across. The matrix is about 50% white calcite and 50% pure white diopside. Some tiny graphite crystals included in the matrix.

Spinel, Chrondrodite. I collected this specimen at the quarry many years ago in 1993 or so. It not a great specimen but an interesting one, showing a light-mauve spinel crystal formed inside a chondrodite crystal. Must be significant in some way!? :)
