A very fun little early fall romp heading into Halloween. Mel Gibson steals the show for me and I really enjoyed his portrayal!

The writing and casting where both very disappointing, making this pasty faced generically bland looking main lead (Mason Thames ) kid spout currently popular life wisdoms like he has 50 year worth of life experience under his belt or go on about his overly used nothing new under the sun problems is just misguided and more annoying than insightful or **** dont bond,connect or relate to actors like that because they are boring to look at and listen too.
the other kids where not much better ( Witherspoon and that other best friend )..not very likable and I hate to be negative about young people but I'm really getting tired of these mediocre appearances and performances being shoved at us on film, being an actor use to mean you where interesting to look at and talented at the **** its a free for all of nothing special so supposedly everyone can relate which doesn't work, and half the fun is in the aspiring to be.
