Working with an economical running time of 100 minutes and a relatively modest budget, Hart infuses Fast Color with genuinely moving drama, an engrossing, supernatural-sci-fi mystery and some pretty darn impressive special effects.

It’s intelligent, frequently resonant, and even wryly funny at points in its own weary way. This is sci-fi which trusts its audience to fill in the blanks and do just a little bit of the heavy lifting, and it’s better off for it.

Even though it is approximately 100 minutes, it has a short film or pilot episode feel. It leaves the audience wanting more. Excellent production, excellent performances by the lead actors, and an underlying musical score that parallels the quality you would find in an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

An excellent production for being on a limited budget. Well acted, excellent camera work and sound is top notch! Loved this film very much.

Hart and Horowitz's script connects the dots on the meaning and messages of the film, which is thrilling in its radicalism. But the execution is heavy-handed, sapping the joy of discovery from the film packed with so much originality, brilliance and beauty to be discovered.

While the story may be flimsy in places, the performances are anything but.

The tightly-focused origin story of Ruth, played with ferocity and feeling by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, is still one hell of a heroic odyssey.

Hart has fashioned a tale of matriarchal inheritance, but one whose fierce message is undercut rather than deepened by its child's-book clarity. The intriguing setup receives underpowered execution, the intended jolts landing all too softly.

Fast Color is not a success, in that it’s not enjoyable as entertainment. It doesn’t hold an audience.

Beautiful movie and beautifully acted. I love technical sci-fi but sometimes an abstract sci-fi done well can be amazing. I think this movie is a solid 8.5 but I’m rounding up because I love it when something is done outside the box without being a overdone special effects creation.

Much better than most big budget movies. It drew me into a different world. That world was hushed but dangerous. And when it ended, I wanted to know what happens next. That is always a sign **** movie--no matter the budget.

I really don't like the super-powers genre. I was into it when I was a young, pre-teen - but, I grew out of it. I watched this film because Levi Lobo (Levi Dylan Martinez) has a few scenes in it. I very much enjoy watching Lobo. He is a very interesting personality. He probably needs to get out of Hollywood and do some summer stock on the east coast... or, something... maybe take some acting lessons.
Anyway, I went ahead and forced myself to watch the film in its entirety. David Strathairn as the local cop turned in his normal very good effort. I usually like watching him.
As for Gugu Mbatha-Raw (what a great name!) in the lead role... I think she didn't get the help from the director (who was working on a small budget) she needed. I saw flashes of some talent that - hopefully - will be taken advantage of some day.
I'm not going to blame the film for the story and plot. Lots of people love this kind of film - I'm just not one of them.

A restrained and impressively handled low-budget sci-fi that looks like the origins of something bigger (as the subsequent television adaptation may prove) but it’s the very restraint and focus on mood that ultimately undoes it’s potential. There’s a good concept here and it’s an empowering, female centric, superhero narrative but it’s has pacing issues which make it feel like a slog sometimes. The good performances and sporadic inventive visuals, however, just about get it over the line.

(Mauro Lanari)
Very colorful and not very fast tale that would like to achieve the Aquarian transcendence of a "Good Vibration" by matriarchal inheritance. Cute but it also falls into the trap of believing that problems can be solved with a higher amount of power and not with something qualitatively different.
