Free summer schools for medicine & dentistry

Funded by NHS England, the Medical Schools Council and Dental Schools Council will be running several summer schools across England. Be sure to read the dates carefully as most require you to attend online and/or in-person sessions before the Summer residential.

Who can apply?

Please note applications for our summer schools have now closed.

These summer schools are for students in Years 11 and 12 in England from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly those from areas with limited outreach to medical schools. There are different options available, including residential, commuter and online places.

What will you experience?
  • A simulated experience of what it’s like to study medicine or dentistry. You’ll try out different teaching methods and learn what to expect when you move from sixth form to university.
  • Insight into the values and behaviours of medical and dental students, as well as doctors and dentists.
  • An overview of the wide range of careers in medicine and dentistry, including specialties in demand and non-patient-focused healthcare options.
  • Activities to help you build confidence and meet other like-minded students and academics.
  • Advice and support on the application process, including preparation for interviews and admissions tests.
  • Social activities to help you network and create a community with others on the same path.
