EZVIZ simplifies secure home entry with new launch at GITEX Macworld
These days, front door security is more important than ever. Online shopping is now the primary way we purchase high-value items like tech, and keeping those packages safe should be a high priority.
To make matters worse, many of us have returned to the office, or begun travelling more frequently, which can mean leaving these packages, and your home, unattended for long periods of time. Thoughts of opportunistic thieves are enough to make anyone shudder.
If you have a complex entryway, comprised of driveway gates, pedestrian doors and internal entrances, for example, the problem only becomes harder to solve. Traditional solutions could have you carrying a big set of keys, multiple fobs, and maybe even a selection of smartphone apps.
Thankfully, there’s an easy solution – no matter whether you live in an apartment or a have a home with a gated driveway. EZVIZ has a wide selection of front door security solutions that work together seamlessly, offering total peace of mind when you’re away from the nest.
The EZVIZ smart security ecosystem includes household cameras, smart door locks, video doorphones, gate openers and more. The best part is that these products are all controlled by a single app, allowing for effortless automation, and total home security coverage.
If you’re ready to take your front door security to the next level, here are a few examples of EZVIZ products that combine to make home entry safer and more convenient than ever.

The HP7 Pro can lock or unlock your property based on your specifications. So you can allow one-time access for workers and delivery drivers, automated entry for family members, as well as password unlock, Bluetooth options and RFID fobs. The best part is that all of your EZVIZ products can work together, no matter how complex your entry process is.
The HP7 Pro provides a crisp 4K video link to the outside of your home, complete with two-way talk, smart monitoring and even palm vein recognition – so you can access your home just by raising your hand, rather than fumbling for keys and fobs.

Steve Jobs Remembered on 14th Anniversary of His Death Steve Jobs died 14 years ago. But the blog Cult of Mac remembers that "Jobs himself was not sentimental."
When he left Apple in the mid-1980s, he didn't even clear out his office. That meant personal mementos like his first Apple stock certificate, which had hung on his office wall, got tossed in the trash. Shortly after returning to Apple in the late 1990s, he gave the company's historical archive to Stanford University Libraries. The stash included records that Apple management kept since the mid-1980s. The reason Apple handed over this historical treasure trove? Jobs didn't want the company to fixate on the past...
All of which goes some way to saying why it was so heartening that Steve Jobs' death received so much attention. He wasn't the richest technology CEO to die. But the reaction showed that his life — faults and all — meant a lot to a great number of people. Jobs helped create products people cared about, and in turn they cared about him.
The site Mac Rumors remembered Sunday that Jobs "died just one day after Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S and Siri." Six years later, Apple CEO Tim Cook reflected on Jobs while opening Apple's first-ever event at Steve Jobs Theater in 2017. "There is not a day that goes by that we don't think about him."
And Sunday Cook posted this remembrance of Steve Jobs. "Steve saw the future as a bright and boundless place, lit the path forward, and inspired us to follow.
"We miss you, my friend."

Remembering Steve Jobs Today marks the 14th anniversary of Steve Jobs passing away, at the age of 56. He died just one day after Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S and Siri.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has once again paid tribute to Jobs.
"Steve saw the future as a bright and boundless place, lit the path forward, and inspired us to follow," said Cook, in a post today. "We miss you, my friend."
Cook also reflected on Jobs while opening Apple's first-ever event at Steve Jobs Theater in 2017.
"There is not a day that goes by that we don't think about him," he said then.
At that event, Apple unveiled the iPhone X, which was a major update to the smartphone that Jobs had famously unveiled in 2007.
The Steve Jobs Archive website contains a collection of quotes, photos, videos, and emails from Jobs, and offers fellowships to young creators to follow in his footsteps. In addition, Apple still has a "Remembering Steve" page on its website with condolences shared by customers around the world following his death in 2011.Tag: Steve JobsThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
One of these three Apple executives will probably be Tim Cook's replacement Whenever Tim Cook retires as Apple CEO, there are now several obvious contenders for the role — but it may all come down to exactly when he steps away.Tim Cook's top candidates for his replacement include Craig Federighi, Greg Joswiak, and John Ternus. If there is one thing more certain than that current Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams will not replace Tim Cook, it's that someone from within the company will. Williams was considered a favorite until he announced his retirement, but Apple almost always promotes from within. It needs to, as well, because the pool of potential CEOs capable of running a multi-trillion-dollar company is small. The odds, too, are that any CEO appointed from outside Apple would want to change the company just to put their mark on it. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Next iPad Pro to Have Two Key Features, But One Rumor Still Uncertain The next iPad Pro models are rumored to feature two key upgrades, including Apple's M5 chip, and an increased minimum of 12GB of RAM.
Last week, apparent unboxing videos for the next-generation 13-inch iPad Pro were uploaded to YouTube by Russian channels Wylsacom and Romancev768.
The same YouTube channels leaked the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip before it was announced by Apple last year, so these latest leaks are likely legitimate.
The unboxing videos showed the M5 chip, and an increased minimum of 12GB of RAM.
According to Geekbench 6 benchmark results shown in one of the videos, the M5 chip offers up to 12% faster multi-core CPU performance and up to 36% faster graphics performance compared to the M4 chip in the current iPad Pro models from May 2024.
The benchmark result also showed the iPad Pro with 256GB of storage will have 12GB of RAM, just like the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. iPad Pro models with the M4 chip have only 8GB of RAM when equipped with 256GB or 512GB of storage, but models with 1TB or 2TB of storage are equipped with 16GB of RAM.
Last year, the iPad Pro was updated with an OLED display and a thinner design. No major design changes are expected this year, but the unboxing videos did reveal that "iPad Pro" will no longer be inscribed on the back of the next models.
Beyond the M5 chip and a minimum of 12GB of RAM, a third rumor is in jeopardy.
It was previously rumored that the next iPad Pro models would have two front cameras, allowing you to easily take photos and go on video calls in both portrait and landscape orientations. However, there is no evidence of a second front camera in the unboxing videos, with only an ambient light sensor visible in the top bezel in one of the videos.
In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman commented on the rumor:I can say with certainty that M5 iPad Pros within Apple have the second lens. There's a history of Apple testing features at an advanced stage before pulling them (such as certain storage capacities or features like a second dock connector on the original iPad), but this would be a strange, last-minute cut.We shall see. Apple will likely unveil the next iPad Pro models this month, so an official announcement is likely just a few weeks away.

Apple's leadership page will look very different in the next five years It's not a surprise, but Apple's highest executives are all within an arms reach of retirement. Expect to see fresh faces rising to fill most of those roles by 2030.Apple's current executive lineup. Image source: AppleThere has been a lot of talk about Apple CEO Tim Cook's succession plans, but that overshadows Apple's other problem. Its entire executive page is circling the retirement age, which could signal significant changes soon. While most of us might think of retirement being at about 64 years old, the ultra-wealthy tend to take a different approach. They'll either stay in their seat of power until their faculties fail them and the board demands their removal, or they'll retire at the ripe young age of 60 or so to "spend time with their family." Layout issues opening keyboard I'm developing a typical chat screen, with the text input at the bottom. The app has a bottom bar with tabs and a topbar.
I'm struggling at getting what I understand to be the expected behavior (Android, iOS):
When keyboard is opened, text input is (directly) on top of keyboard.
The topbar doesn't move, i.e. stays at top of screen.
Bottom bar is visible at bottom of screen when keyboard is closed.
I've tried different combinations of using scaffold's innerPadding, applying imePadding() to different elements, or not applying it, etc. There's always a different issue that doesn't fulfill the 3 points above. E.g. topbar is pushed out of screen, there's space with size of tabbar between input and keyboard. Sometimes there are platform specific differences.
Are my expectations correct? if yes, what's wrong with the code? if not, what to change?
Here's a repo with this code: https://github.com/ivnsch/textfieldpadding/tree/6717e4d247970316bcc36d52427de408514cff83
Issue example when opening keyboard (current code):

Misplaced your wallet again? This $20 AirTag alternative has your back Macworld
I’ll be honest—I’ve tried using AirTags to keep track of my stuff, but the bulky shape just didn’t work in my wallet. That’s why I was pretty excited to find the MagTag, a sleek AirTag dupe, especially now that it’s on sale for only $19.97 (reg. $59.99) during Deal Days, our version of Prime Day. If you’re the kind of person who misplaces your wallet, passport, or bag more often than you’d like to admit (guilty), this thing is a game-changer.
It’s just 1.5mm thick—about the size of a credit card—and fits easily into tight spaces without that awkward bulge. Best part? It works seamlessly with Apple’s Find My network, so you don’t need to download another app or jump through setup hoops. I just added it in the Find My app like I would with any Apple device.
There’s a left-behind alert feature that’s already saved me from walking out the door without my wallet. You can also ping the tracker to make it beep if it’s hiding under a couch cushion or buried in a bag. It’s rechargeable via Qi wireless charging, lasts up to five months on a single charge, and is rated IP68 waterproof, so it’s built to last.
If you’re deep into the Apple ecosystem and want a low-profile way to keep tabs on your essentials, this is a solid pickup—especially at this price.
Join me and quit misplacing your essentials. Grab one of these credit card-sized MagTag trackers for just $19.97 (reg. $59.99) during Deal Days while supplies last. Offer ends October 12 at 11:59 pm. PT.

What does this mean? Apple has stated that apps not adopting “Scene feature” will become unusable in next year’s update, leading to this situation. Logitech MX Master 4 review: Top Mac mouse is updated with innovative haptic feedback features Macworld
At a glanceExpert's Rating
Pros
Sturdy and comfortable design
New haptic feedback features
Two scrolling wheels
Lots of programmable buttons
Cons
Right-handed only
Expensive
Few apps support haptic technology right now
Our Verdict
The haptic tech may be overkill for many people, but the MX Master 4 still boasts the excellent design and versatile features of its predecessors. The Options+ app also gives users the ability to program their own commands to speed up routine tasks – and you don’t have to turn the mouse upside down to charge it either.

Just as Razer enters the Mac market with its Pro Click mouse, Logitech strikes back with a long-awaited (and widely leaked) update to its popular MX Master series. The MX Master 3 was released way back in 2019, with an update to the 3S in 2022. The 3S wasn’t a major update, but the new MX Master 4 does represent a real step forward, with Logitech introducing haptic feedback technology for the first time. We are, however, pleased to note that the price remains the same, at $119.99/£119.99, despite the introduction of the new haptic technology. The MX Master 3S also remains on sale, now at a discounted price, so that’s still a good alternative to Apple’s Magic Mouse too.
It may look the same, but the Logitech MX Master 4 has a sturdier build and a number of new features.Logitech
It’s worth mentioning that, as with previous MX mice and keyboards, there is a special ‘For Mac’ edition of the MX Master 4 also available. However, the Mac edition really isn’t much different, simply offering ‘space black’ and ‘white silver’ colour options that are designed to match current Mac models. And, somewhat annoyingly, the Mac edition is the same price as the standard version – even though the Mac edition lacks the additional USB wireless adaptor provided with the standard MX Master 4, which provides an alternative to a conventional Bluetooth wireless connection.
That’s why we chose to review the standard MX Master 4 here, as we prefer using the USB adaptor rather than Bluetooth. Sadly, though, a left-handed version of the mouse is still not available after all these years, as Logitech’s engineers are apparently too busy to mirror-flip the blueprints in Photoshop in order to create a left-handed model.
Master Mouse
At first glance, the MX Master 4 (standard version) doesn’t look much different from its predecessors. Available in dark or pale grey, the Master 4 sticks with Logitech’s distinctive design, with a top panel that curves upwards to fit the palm of your hand, a second scrolling wheel on the left-hand edge of the mouse, and a large thumb rest that protrudes from the lower left-hand side of the mouse.
The Master 4 also has the same 8,000dpi sensor and high-speed scrolling wheel as its predecessor, and battery life remains the same at around 70 days on a full charge.
There are however, plenty of differences with this new model, both inside and out. There’s a new processor and antenna inside the mouse, which provide a more reliable wireless connection, and the USB dongle has – thankfully – now switched to a USB-C connector.
The outer casing of the mouse uses a more robust, stain-resistant coating, and the thumb rest is larger in order to accommodate the new haptic feedback features.
Previous versions of the MX Master had an extra button hidden inside the thumb rest – which, according to Logitech, many people tended to overlook (including me) – so that button has now been moved upwards so that it’s more clearly visible sitting alongside the existing Forward/Back thumb buttons on the side of the mouse.
Haptic Feedback
But, of course, it’s the haptic feedback features that are the star of the show, and the thumb rest now has a haptic ‘Sense Panel’ that sits right under the tip of your thumb. This is a button that you can program to perform a variety of functions, but it also provides tactile haptic feedback in the form of a brief ‘click’ sensation – similar to the haptic feedback on Apple’s Magic Trackpad – in response to a variety of actions or commands.
The new haptic controls are located in the thumb rest on the side of the mouse. Logitech
Admittedly, some people may not notice the haptic feedback very much at first, and Logitech acknowledges that these features are very much aimed at “advanced users” who want “peak productivity”. There aren’t many professional apps that currently support haptic feedback, but Logitech has worked with Adobe to add haptic support to Photoshop and Lightroom, so that the mouse can trigger a haptic ‘click’ in response to actions such as cropping or aligning an object to a guide.
Logitech’s also working with other developers to help them create plug-ins that can add haptic support to their own apps, so this could become a useful tool that provides helpful haptic feedback for pro users who want to streamline common tasks in their key apps.
A Mouse With Options
For home users or ordinary office workers, the Logi Options+ app provides another new feature, called the Action Ring, which is activated by pressing the Sense Panel button. The Actions Ring appears on screen when you press the Sense Panel, and displays a circular menu with additional commands that you can select. By default, the Action Ring displays a set of standard commands, such as launching the Notes app on a Mac or instantly locking your Mac.
The Action Ring does work with older MX mice, but the MX Master 4 provides a haptic click in response when selecting commands. That’s not exactly a game-changer, but the Options+ app does also allow you to customise the Actions Ring by choosing a variety of different controls and commands, which will all respond with a haptic click when you select those commands.
Logitech’s Options+ app allows you to modify the way that haptic feedback works.
Logitech.com
Should You Buy The Logitech MX Master 4?
It’s still early days for haptic technology, and there’s only a handful of professional apps that currently support the new haptic features, so the MX Master 4 may not be an essential upgrade for owners of older MX mice. But, if you’re looking for an alternative to Apple’s Magic Mouse, then the MX Master 4 is one of the best mice currently available for the Mac. Its array of programmable buttons makes it far more versatile than Apple’s Magic Mouse, and if you’re not sold on the haptic hype then the previous MX model is still available at a lower price. It’s a shame, though, that Logitech is so slow at recognising the needs of left-handed users.

The CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 5 (TS5) is a bridge between the Olympian 20-port CalDigit TS5 Plus and the latest docking stations for mere mortals.
If you desire the ultimate in MacBook docking stations, the CalDigit TS5 Plus has just about everything you need—indeed probably more than you need. The plain TS5’s 15 ports should be enough for any but the more extreme pro-level users. The question is: are the TS5’s 15 ports the right mixture at the right price for you?
Specs and features
One upstream Thunderbolt 5 port (80Gbps, 140W)
Three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports (80Gbps, 36W)
One USB-C port (10Gbps, 20W)
Two USB-C ports (10Gbps, 7.5W)
One USB-A port (10Gbps, 7.5W)
One USB-A port (480MBps, 7.5W)
Ethernet (2.5Gb)
UHS-II SD card reader (312MBps)
UHS-II microSD card reader (312MBps)
3.5mm combo audio jack (front)
Two 3.5mm In/Out audio jacks (back)
240W power supply
CalDigit
All the ports are clearly labeled, which is appreciated.
That’s a great line-up of ports, even compared to its mighty 20-port TS5 Plus sibling. Indeed, the TS5 actually offers one more downstream Thunderbolt 5 port than the TS5 Plus, which sacrificed one of its TB5 ports for a DisplayPort.
The TS5’s lack of such a dedicated video port shouldn’t worry you. Any of the three downstream TB5 ports can be used to connect to a monitor. If the monitor supports a direct USB-C connection, then no adapter is required. If not, you’ll need a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI adapter for the display connection.
Thunderbolt 5 doubles Thunderbolt 4’s data speeds from 40Gbps to bi-directional 80Gbps and up to 120Gbps in boost mode for higher display unidirectional bandwidth, resulting in significantly faster data transfers between devices and your Mac.
If you need to connect high performance SSDs or RAID devices Thunderbolt 5 rewards you with a PCIe performance that is doubled to 64Gbps PCIe 4.0, and the dock supports transfer speeds up to 6,200MBps.
Simon Jary
The three USB-C ports are welcome, and the one at the front is rated at 20W, allowing for fast iPhone or iPad charging. Being something of a show-off the TS5 Plus boasted a 36W front-mounted USB-C port for even faster charging but 20W (just) exceeds Apple’s minimum 18W for speedy iPhone charging. Now we have 25W wireless charging it’s probably time for wired ports to offer that bit more.
The bigger TS5 Plus is armed with five USB-A ports, which we find excessive given that it’s aimed at professionals who surely would have ditched that annoying legacy port by now, although we acknowledge that some device makers persist with the non-reversible USB-A standard and it’s more common for portable memory sticks.
The TS5 dock trims the number of USB-A down to two, which we think is enough for any dock. One is rated at 10Gbps for data transfer and another for just 480MBps but both can output up to 7.5W to connected devices. The slower Type-A port can’t supply power when the dock is disconnected from the laptop, but the 10Gbps port and all the other power-giving ports do support offline charging.
Simon Jary
Compact power station
Thunderbolt 5 has a required higher power delivery (to a connected laptop) of at least 140W (up from TB4’s minimum 100W) with support for up to 240W (vs TB4’s max 140W). The TS5 can therefore power a connected laptop at up to 140W, enough to fast-charge a top-end 16-inch MacBook Pro. To achieve this, make sure you use the included 1m TB5 cable that can handle such power.
The TS5 Plus comes equipped with a super-generous 330W power supply, but the TS5’s 240W max should be enough for the ports that might require it: 1x 140W TB5, 3x 15W TB5, 1x 20W USB-C, and 5x 7.5W USB. That adds up to 242.5W and the dock will require some juice itself, but it’s plenty of power on hand. Most other docks max out at 180W and therefore add the risk that the all-important wattage going into the laptop might occasionally fluctuate to accommodate other hungry devices when over-loaded.
One reason that the TS5 Plus needs so much more power is the fact that its two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports can each output up to 36W of power compared to the TS%’s three downstream ports sticking with the regulation 15W maximum output.
Any of the three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports can be used to connect to an external display. At the far right is the upstream Thunderbolt 5 port to connect to your MacBook.Simon Jary
Video options
Top of laptop users’ docking station priorities is connecting to one or probably two external displays without using up all the MacBook’s own ports.
Where CalDigit sacrificed the third downstream Thunderbolt port for a top-end DisplayPort 2.1 video connection on the TS5 Plus, there’s no such dedicated video port on the plain TS5 so you need to use one or more of the three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports for this purpose—possibly with a DisplayPort or HDMI adapter if the monitor demands one. The non-Thunderbolt USB-C ports of the TS5 won’t work as connectors to monitors.
Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort so can handle superior refresh rates to HDMI that is pegged back at a maximum 75Hz.
Mac users on base M4, M1/M2/M3/M4 Pro, M1/M2/M3/M4 Max and M1/M2/M3 Ultra processors can natively connect up to two displays. Depending on the display capabilities of your MacBook, the maximum resolution is 8K at a 60Hz refresh rate (on an M4 Max), with a possible refresh rate of 240Hz for 4K or 500Hz for 1080p HD on all others. As mentioned, the above resolutions will depend on the host computer’s capabilities. For example, dual 8K 60Hz is only compatible on the M4 Max MacBook Pro right now.
With the TS5’s TB5 ports Mac users can connect up to two external 4K displays at 240Hz. Windows users are more blessed here due to that operating system’s use of Multi-Stream Transport (MST) that enables up to three displays on supported host computers.
(Base M1/M2/M3 based Macs are limited to just one external monitor due to Apple’s own imposed Thunderbolt limitations. To get around this limitation you need a specialized DisplayLink dock, and the TS5 doesn’t support this—see how to connect more than one monitor to an M1/M2 Mac for more details.)
Mac users after three or more displays will again need to consider a high-end DisplayLink dock such as the Plugable Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station (TBT-6950PD) or Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink.
CalDigit
If you are hooking the dock up to an iPad Pro you’ll be able to run a 6K display at 60Hz. And iPhone 15/16/17 will support a 4K 60Hz display via the TS5. See the chart above for all the configurations for Mac, iPad and iPhone, and even Windows if you must.
Simon Jary
Storage
Some docking stations—such as the Sonnet Echo 13 Dock—address the MacBook’s expensive internal storage by including SSD storage integrated into the dock itself that is operated like a very fast external disk drive.
Neither the TS5 nor the TS5 Plus offers a built-in SSD but both do offer both SD and microSD card readers at the front for you to slip in and out your own portable storage cards.
This is an inexpensive way of boosting MacBook storage. At the time of writing a 1TB microSD card was priced at under $100, although that was a 160MBps UHS-I speed card and the TS5’s readers support up to 312MBps UHS-II. That’s faster than the 250MBps SDXC card slot built into Apple’s current MacBook Pro.
A faster UHS-II SD card of 1TB capacity will cost about $200, which is still considerably cheaper than what Apple charges you for internal storage at the point of purchase.
Simon Jary
Network speeds
Most home and office networks are still rated at the standard 1Gb (Gigabit) Ethernet, but more modern networks are much faster at 2.5Gb, 5Gb or even 10Gb speeds.
Recent pro docks include a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet (2.5GbE) port as the new base, and the CalDigit TS5 joins them at this speedier Ethernet standard. 2.5GbE is backwards compatible all the way back to Gigabit Ethernet. The brawnier TS5 Plus goes all the way to 10GbE.
Simon Jary

The CalDigit TS5 sticks with the tried and trusted iconic aluminum chassis with vented sides and top that has been a favorite for over a decade starting with the company’s TS3 and carried on by the TS4.
Its vertical or horizontal format bucks the trend of most laptop docking stations that sit either one way or the other. We prefer to keep the TS5 vertical so that every one of those heat-dissipating vents can help keep the dock’s innards cool. CalDigit doesn’t include a fan as some users—especially in creative studios—demand total silence from their devices.
CalDigit includes two rubber feet strips if you do want to lay it flat on the desk, so the dock is raised to allow some cooling to occur on all sides.
Standing vertically, it measures 5.55 inches (14.1cm) high, 4.46 inches (11.3cm) deep, and 1.65 inches (4.2cm) wide. It weighs 1.41lbs (0.64kg).
This compares to its 20-port bruiser sibling that packs more punches but still measures a reasonably diminutive 6.1 x 5 x 1.85 inches (15.5 x 12.8 x 4.7cm) wide and weighs in at 2lbs (0.9kg).
The ports placements are well considered. The upstream Thunderbolt 5 port that connects to your laptop is away at the back, keeping cable mess out of sight. The two card readers as well as two USB-C ports (including one rated at 20W USB-C) and one of the dock’s three audio ports are within easy reach up front.
The other two audio ports, one In and one Out, are at the back of the dock, as is a security slot on the far end.
As with all CalDigit docks and hubs there’s no On/Off power button on the TS5. The dock might not let you decide when and where power is delivered but rest assured that the dock gives power when required and none if not.

CalDigit TS5 or TS5 Plus
For an extra $100/£70 you could buy the slightly larger and more multi-ported CalDigit TS5 Plus. For that, as detailed above, you get more USB-A ports, which might be overkill, but the extra two USB-C ports will be useful. The Plus offers a decent step up in terms of the 10Gb Ethernet and 36W of power not just from the front USB-C port but from each of the Thunderbolt 5 ports too—as well as 330W of maximum power. The power to your laptop is the same at 140W but the ability to charge more devices may be the nudge you need for the upgrade.
The Plus won’t run more monitors or improve the refresh rate, although its DisplayPort gives you a more direct link to compatible monitors, where the plain TS5 might require an adapter unless the display also offers USB-C as a connection.
If you prefer the flexibility of three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports compared to the TS5 Plus’s two TB5 and one DisplayPort, the plain TS5 may win you over.
Read our CalDigit TS5 Plus review for more details.

Price
CalDigit’s TS5 Plus has more ports and at a higher spec than any other docking station and commands a premium $499.99 price as a result. The cut-down but still impressive plain TS5 comes in at a more affordable $399.99 price point. See Amazon for its latest prices on each of the CalDigit Thunderbolt 5 docks. In the U.K. the TS5 costs £399.99, and it’s priced at €385,85 in Europe.
In comparison, the Sonnet Echo 13 Dock (with integrated 1TB SSD) costs from $439 although is usually found online at around $370. The OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock is cheaper at $329, but the best value Thunderbolt 5 dock is the $299 Plugable Thunderbolt 5 Dock that carries the same four TB5 ports, three USB-A, 2.5GbE, UHS-II card readers, audio jack, and a 180W power supply, so may well be all you need. It too can either stand vertical or lie horizontally.
Another option is you can do without the Ethernet port and card readers is CalDigit’s Element 5 Thunderbolt 5 Hub ($299) that boasts as many TB5 ports as the TS5, one more USB-A and one fewer USB-C port.
Read all our reviews of the best Thunderbolt docks for Mac for more comparisons, but you can rest assured that the CalDigit TS5 ranks very highly for all the reasons given in this review.
Should you buy an CalDigit TS5 dock?
If the mighty CalDigit TS5 Plus is too expensive and/or has more ports than you really need, the TS5 Thunderbolt 5 docking station brings a high-power, top-notch set of ports in a form you can trust to keep up with the latest devices you might want to connect to your MacBook.

ESR follows up its 15W Qi2 3-in-1 Charging Stations with a new Q12 25W (Qi 2.2) version that will shave some iPhone charging time off your schedule, while pepping up your Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time.
The popular 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Set was first available as a 7.5W MagSafe-compatible charger, then a faster 15W Qi2 version that was swiftly followed by a newer version boasting the company’s own CryoBoost cooling technology that pushed it to the top of our charging speed charts.
The company has now refined that speedy 3-in-1 charger with the 25W wireless standard alongside the temperature-controlling CryoBoost.
Simon Jary
Staying cool
The biggest efficiency-blocker in wireless charging is heat. If a device is too hot or too cold, wireless charging and indeed general battery performance is negatively affected—significantly enough that Apple will deny further charging until the iPhone has reduced in temperature.
Qi 2.2’s 25W maximum pushes this heat challenge to the fore, and all certified chargers require some level of cooling to help the charger maintain that level of power output.
ESR was one of the first to actively push cooling into its wireless chargers and so is well positioned to take some of the heat out of the 25W charging standard. Belkin uses something similar with its own ChillBoost tech being added to its rival UltraCharge Pro 3-in-1.
Simon Jary
ESR’s CryoBoost’s open duct system improves airflow and therefore cooling efficiency. ESR claims this can reduce connected device temperatures by 6.5°F, ensuring safer and more stable charging. It is meant to keep your phone below 93.9° F (34.4°C) during charging.
The charging pad is cooled by a fan, and ESR has reduced fan noise from 30dB to 25dB—don’t worry, you’ll barely hear it even if you put your ear right next to it. If you do need absolute silence there’s a button at the front that allows you to switch the fan off and on.
Simon Jary
Design
This 25W version retains the same classic slim 3-in-1 charging stand design as the 15W Qi2 model with the magnetic charging pad for iPhone raised 3 inches from the desk. At its base is a 5W Qi charging pad for your AirPods case.
The charger’s overall footprint is smaller than the previous model, measuring just 3.4 x 3.3 x 6.6 inches (8.6 x 8.4 x 16.8cm) and weighs 11oz (312g).
Take the detachable Apple Watch charging unit with you on your travels.Simon Jary
At the back of the iPhone charging pad is the 5W charging module for Apple Watch. This is officially Apple certified for Watch fast charging.
Handily, you can detach the Watch charger and take with you if you need to charge your Watch while away—and Watch users will know that the Apple device needs frequent charging. It can be connected to any USB-C charger or port—say one of your MacBook’s Thunderbolt ports.
On its own, the Watch charger unit weighs just 22g.
When carrying the Watch charging unit, remember to re-attach the easy-to-forget 3g lid to protect the USB-C connector.
Simon Jary
One negative about the design is that the phone-charging module is fixed and so isn’t adjustable in terms of tilting and angling. If you are happy with the set angle and don’t require further adjustment, this shouldn’t bother you, but if you are a phone fiddler you might want to look at a more adjustable stand such as the $129 Belkin UltraCharge Pro 3-in-1 that can be adjusted up to 70 degrees.
The ESR Charger ships with a powerful 50W USB-C wall charger and cable.
While the Qi2 version is available in black or white colors, for now the 25W model is in black only—and is on sale in just the U.S.
Performance
The 25W wireless charging tech requires ESR’s CryoBoost cooling, and in our tests the charger got an iPhone 16 Pro from 0% to 50% in just over half an hour, which is not too far off the time it would take if you plugged your iPhone directly into a wall charger via a USB-C cable.
In contrast a 15W wireless charger takes around 45 minutes to get a faded iPhone to 50%. The 15W CroBoost model of this charger was faster than average, measuring 40 minutes in our tests, but for the fastest speeds we recommend this 25W model to get you back to full power as fast as possible.
There wasn’t much to separate the 25W ESR 3-in-1 from the 25W Belkin 3-in-1. Both boast Qi 2.2 and active cooling, so this is as expected.
We test to 50% because charging slows down as the battery fills up—to protect the phone—so the best stage to look at is between 0% and 50%.
See our reviews and tests of the best MagSafe chargers for more options.
Simon Jary
Price
The 25W model of the ESR 3-in-1 CryoBoost Charger costs $119.99, a little cheaper than the Belkin UltraCharge Pro ($129.99/£79.99). The Belkin’s iPhone charging pad is more adjustable but a little lower to the desk and features a non-detachable Watch charger.
You can still buy the ESR 3-in-1 at plain Qi2’s 15W with CryoBoost for around $80 or less.
Check out more options in our best MagSafe charger and best Apple Watch charger roundups.
Should you buy the ESR 25W CryoBoost 3-in-1 Magnetic Charger?
This 25W version of the small-footprint ESR 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station with CryoBoost cooling technology is an upgrade on the 15W model with around 10 minutes cut off 0-50% charging time. That might not seem a lot but if you need power, you want it as fast as possible, right? If you use it only as a nightstand for charging while you sleep, you won’t need the extra speed boost—indeed a cheaper 7.5W wireless charger will do you just fine. But this is as fast a wireless charger as we’ve tested in our real-world labs and might save you precious moments when in a charging hurry.

New iPad Pro With M5 Chip Leaked in Unboxing Video
Russian YouTube channel Wyslacom appears to have done it again. A year after leaking the M4 MacBook Pro with an unboxing video, they've repeated the feat with the upcoming M5 iPad Pro.

Apple this week pushed out an iOS 26.0.1 update to address several bugs from the initial iOS 26 release and the new iPhone hardware, including Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and Camera issues on the new iPhones, cellular network issues, app icon tinting problems, and more.
Apple also released macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 to address an issue with M3 Ultra Mac Studio machines being unable to update to macOS Tahoe, as well as minor watchOS 26.0.2, visionOS 26.0.1, and tvOS 26.0.1 updates.
Review: A Week With the iPhone 17 Pro
We've now had a chance to spend some extended time with Apple's latest phones, and MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera has put together his thoughts on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the ultra-thin iPhone Air.
The Pro models are showing impressive battery life gains and thermal improvements, while the upgraded front-facing camera delivers nice quality improvements for selfies. The upgraded Telephoto lens is also a welcome addition, and he's yet to see any durability issues despite some early concerns over scratches seen on demo units.
The iPhone Air is a dream to hold, and its titanium frame is beautiful and strong, but there's no hiding that the device comes with some compromises like shorter battery life and only a single rear camera.
LG UltraFine 6K (32U990A) TB5 Display: Pre-Orders Now Available
Back in January at CES, LG announced what it said is the first 6K display to support Thunderbolt 5, and it is now available for pre-order from retailers like B&H Photo. The display will run you $2,000, but if you think of it as an alternative to Apple's $5,000+ Pro Display XDR, that pricing starts to look a lot better.
You'll get a 6,144 x 3,456 display with daisy-chain support, 96-watt power delivery for a connected laptop, and tilt, pivot, height, and rotation adjustments, as well as DisplayPort and HDMI inputs alongside Thunderbolt 5.

Apple Intelligence has been largely underwhelming to most people thus far. That said, I believe that a killer use case has arrived, and we’re vastly underestimating its long-term impact. That feature is Live Translation. It is easy to dismiss it as a travel gimmick, but I think it could become one of the most important business tools Apple has ever shipped. When AirPods can handle real-time translation with nothing more than an iPhone in your pocket, the way global teams collaborate starts to look very different.

Apple silicon speed test: Every iPhone, iPad, and Mac processor compared Macworld
At the heart of every Apple device is an Apple processor. Apple has been using its own chips in its iPhones and iPads for more than a decade, while Apple silicon in the Mac is already in its fourth generation.
What’s remarkable about Apple silicon is its performance and power efficiency. But all chips aren’t created equally. Understanding the performance differences between each chip will help with your buying decisions, especially when you’re deciding between iPhone 16 or MacBook models. Knowing how each chip performs gives you a better idea of what products to buy and whether or not it’s worth your money to step up to a higher model.
Let’s take a look at how the new processors compare with the rest of the processors in the iPhone, iPad, and Mac lineup and see how each performs and what that means to you. For the sake of consistency, we’ve used Geekbench 6 benchmarks. Here’s every chip and how the benchmarks compare with each other.

How to watch ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ for free on Apple TV+ Macworld
The holiday season has begun, and that means it’s time for traditions. While “traditions” usually conjure up thoughts of centuries-old practices, some are a bit more modern, like the watching of holiday Peanuts specials on TV. The first of several holiday-themed episodes, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a Halloween classic that’s exclusively on Apple TV+.
While Apple has allowed PBS to air the special in previous years, that’s not the case anymore. Hold on, though, there’s no need to get mad and start smashing pumpkins–yes, I’m talking about you, Uncle Fred. If you don’t subscribe to Apple TV+, you’ll still be able to partake in this great tradition, because Apple is making Great Pumpkin available for free to watch for a weekend. And those who currently subscribe to Apple TV+ can watch Great Pumpkin at any time, even in February, if that suits you.
How to watch Great Pumpkin for free on Apple TV+
From October 18 to 19, anyone with an Apple ID (free to sign up) can watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. You can watch through these venues:
Though the TV app on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac
On smart TVs with the Apple TV+ app
On the web at tv.apple.com
On an Apple TV device
Apple TV+ has all the classic Peanuts specials for the holiday season that, for decades, used to air over broadcast TV. In addition to Great Pumpkin, Apple TV+ also has A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (free on Nov. 15 and 16) and A Charlie Brown Christmas (from Dec. 13 and 14). Apple TV+ also has Happy New Year, Charlie Brown, but it is not listed as free-to-view.
A few years ago, Apple acquired the rights to the Peanuts cartoon series that stars Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, and other memorable characters. Since then, Apple has aired new Peanuts shows such as The Snoopy Show and Snoopy in Space, and new movies, including Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10, Lucy’s School, and It’s the Small Things, Charlie Brown.
The Apple TV+ subscription television streaming service is $12.99/£9.99 per month and can be renewed annually for $99/£99. Apple TV+ is also included in the Apple One subscription bundles, which include other Apple services, such as Apple Music, Apple News+, and iCloud storage. Apple One bundles are priced between $19.95/£19.95 and $37.95/£37.95 per month.

10+ macOS Tahoe Features You Might Have Missed Apple's new Liquid Glass design has received most of the attention in news about macOS Tahoe, but there are quite a few new features that make the Mac better than ever, including some that are not super obvious. We've rounded up 10 useful macOS Tahoe features that you should know about.
Customize the Menu Bar
With macOS Tahoe, you have more control over the layout of your menu bar. You can rearrange the menu bar, remove things you're not using, and add Control Center widgets for quick access to your most used settings.
To customize your menu bar, go to System Settings > Menu Bar > Menu Bar Controls, or open Control Center, click on Edit Controls, and click on the "+" in the menu bar. You can uncheck boxes to remove items, and use the Add Controls option to add new options from both first and third-party apps.
Customize Your Mac's Lock Screen Font
macOS Tahoe lets you customize the clock that appears on your Mac's Lock Screen. You can't adjust size like you can in iOS 26, but you can change the font style and thickness.
To adjust your clock, go to System Settings > Wallpaper > Clock Appearance. You can choose from six different font styles, and adjust the weight with a slider. You can opt to have the clock show on your Lock Screen or on the Lock Screen and Screen Saver.
Live Activities
If you have an iPhone and a Mac, Live Activities can now sync between your devices. When you have an active Live Activity on your iPhone, like an in-progress flight, an upcoming Uber ride, or a live sports game, it will automatically show up in your Mac's menu bar through the iPhone Mirroring feature.
Live Activities sync automatically with iPhone Mirroring enabled, and you can turn it on with the iPhone Mirroring Mac. You can click on any Live Activity to open the associated iPhone app through iPhone Mirroring.
See Your Clipboard History
Spotlight now incorporates clipboard history, tracking what you copy and paste. It's erased every eight hours so nothing is saved longterm, but it's useful if you need to find something you copied earlier in the day.
To get to your clipboard, press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight, then press Command + 4 to swap over to the clipboard view. Click on any item to copy it.
Clipboard history is off by default, so you do need to turn it on in the Spotlight section of System Settings before you can use it.
Streamline Spotlight Search Results
When you're using Spotlight to search for something in an app, macOS Tahoe lets you add filters directly in the search bar. Open up Spotlight, type in a search term, and then click on a filter at the top to narrow down the results. If you want to find PDFs you've been sent in the Mail app, for example, you can type in PDF and then click on Mail.
A quicker way to search is to type in the app name, like Mail, press the tab key, and then type in your second filter term like PDF.
Search Websites Faster
You can use Spotlight to perform searches on websites without having to open up Safari and navigate to the site first. Just type a website name like Etsy or Amazon, press Tab, and type what you want to search for.
Search Your Tabs
When you search in Spotlight, the results include the Safari tabs that you have open. If you tend to have dozens of tabs open at once, it can be a good way to find the specific tab you're looking for rather than clicking through them one-by-one. Open tabs show up at the top of the list when you enter a relevant search term.
Use Quick Keys
Quick Keys are shortcuts that let you perform actions in Spotlight using just a few characters. With a Quick Key, you can type in a couple of letters to do a task that you repeat often, such as sending someone a message or opening up an app.
To use it, open up Spotlight by pressing Command + Spacebar, then press Command + 3 to get to Actions. Type in the action that you want, like Open ChatGPT, and then when it appears, click on the Add Quick Key option.
From there, you can type between 1 and 12 letters as your shortcut, such as "gpt." The next time you want to execute that action, just type the Quick Key phrase.
Create Automations
macOS Tahoe has iOS-style Shortcut automations that can run automatically based on time, system events, or other triggers, which is functionality that was not previously available.
Open the Shortcuts app, click on the Automation option in the side bar, and then click on the "+" button to create an automation. Triggers include time of day, when an app opens, when a display or accessory is connected, when a Focus mode activates, when the battery gets to a certain level, when you save a file to a specific folder, and more.
Safari Picture in Picture
Picture-in-picture has been available in Safari for several years, but macOS Tahoe brings easier activation, new controls, and customization options.
In an article where there's a video, click on the Page Menu icon in the left side of the URL bar to enter picture-in-picture mode. You can now access playback controls for skipping forward and backward, and you can skip ads directly from the picture-in-picture window.
See Your Spotlight History
You can see your past Spotlight searches and actions in macOS Tahoe, which makes it easy to get back to something that you did before.
With Spotlight open, press on the up arrow to scroll through your past queries.
Gaming Low Power Mode
macOS Tahoe updates Low Power Mode so that it's optimized for gaming, giving you a way to extend your gameplay sessions. You can set Low Power Mode to turn on automatically when your Mac is not plugged in, or let your Mac manage its power intelligently.
Whenever Low Power Mode is activated, it won't impact gameplay by lowering game performance.
Game Overlay
When you're playing a game in macOS Tahoe, you can tap Command + ESC to bring up a new Game Overlay. From the Game Overlay, you can view achievements and leaderboards, connect with friends, and adjust settings like brightness and volume.
macOS Tahoe packs these useful features alongside its eye-catching visual redesign. Whether you're customizing your workspace, streamlining your workflow with Quick Keys, or automating repetitive tasks, these features can make your Mac experience significantly more productive. Take some time to explore these capabilities--you might find your new favorite Mac feature hiding in plain sight.

Upcoming Apple Vision Pro Could Get More Comfortable 'Dual Knit Band' Apple is working on a next-generation version of the Vision Pro with an updated chip, and it could include a new Dual Knit Band that provides a more comfortable fit.
Updated Apple backend code found by MacRumors includes a reference to a "Dual Knit Band," which is not a band that exists at the current time. The Apple Vision Pro comes with a Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band, but no Dual Knit Band.
Based on the name, the new band could be a cross between Apple's two existing bands, featuring the same comfortable material as the Solo Knit Band but with a more supportive two-band fit. A text description of the Dual Knit Band suggests that there will be an upper band that spans the top of the head and another band that fits behind the head.
Some people have made custom adjustments to the Vision Pro to get it to accommodate two Solo Knit Bands for extra support at the top of the head, and those that have gone that route suggest it is much more comfortable than Apple's current Dual Loop Band.
Back in July, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that the refreshed Vision Pro could include a new strap that would make it easier to wear the headset for long periods of time, and it looks like the rumor is accurate.
The Vision Pro weighs between 21.2 and 22.9 ounces, putting considerable strain on the head when it's worn for long periods of time. Some users find the weight of the device and the poor distribution of the Solo Knit Band to cause discomfort. The Dual Loop Band removes some of the weight from the face, but because it doesn't have the same knit design as the Solo Knit Band, it is less comfortable.
Apple is expected to refresh the $3,499 Vision Pro before the end of 2025. It will get a faster M5 chip, but Apple doesn't plan to make any other updates to the device.Related Roundup: Apple Vision ProBuyer's Guide: Vision Pro (Neutral)Related Forum: Apple Vision ProThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Why does Firebase App Check think that my app is not registered? I've been working on a Flutter project for iOS, and I'm confused on why Firebase App Check isn't working. Last release, it worked fine, but this release, it fails...so this leads me to believe that it's something to do with an update to the Firebase App Check SDK.
Here's the error that was logged in Xcode when running on a real device in release mode:
[AppCheckCore][I-GAC003001] Unexpected API response: {
URL: [recacted]/apps/[redacted]:exchangeDeviceCheckToken } { Status Code: 400, Headers { "Alt-Svc" = ( "h3=":443"; ma=2592000,h3-29=":443"; ma=2592000" ); "Content-Encoding" = ( gzip ); "Content-Length" = ( 153 ); "Content-Type" = ( "application/json; charset=UTF-8" ); Date = ( "Tue, 30 Sep 2025 22:42:47 GMT" ); Server = ( ESF ); Vary = ( Origin, "X-Origin", Referer ); "x-content-type-options" = ( nosniff ); "x-frame-options" = ( SAMEORIGIN ); "x-xss-protection" = ( 0 ); } }, body: {
"error": { "code": 400, "message": "App not registered: [redacted].", "status": "FAILED_PRECONDITION" } } .
12.2.0 - [FirebaseFirestore][I-FST000001] AppCheck failed: 'The operation couldn’t be completed. The server responded with an error: - URL: [redacted]:exchangeDeviceCheckToken - HTTP status code: 400 - Response body: { "error": { "code": 400, "message": "App not registered: [redacted].", "status": "FAILED_PRECONDITION" } }
Looking at the error, it looks like Firebase thinks that my app isn't registered. Now, the Firebase console says that App Attest is registered, and App Attest has worked in past releases. But there's a key detail, "exchangeDeviceToken" implies that for some reason, Firebase App Check is trying to do DeviceCheck instead of App Attest...which doesn't make much sense, because my Flutter code:
await FirebaseAppCheck.instance.activate(
androidProvider: AndroidProvider.playIntegrity,
appleProvider: AppleProvider.appAttest,
providerWeb: ReCaptchaV3Provider('')
);
is specifically going for App Attest...but looking at the VS Code info for the activate function (here's a snippet of that):
Migration Notice
The androidProvider and appleProvider parameters will be deprecated in a future release. Use providerAndroid and providerApple instead, which support the new provider classes including AndroidDebugProvider and AppleDebugProvider for passing debug tokens directly.
It looks like there's some new syntax. Now I tried experimenting with that, but ultimately, I couldn't get it to work, because I don't know how to use the new providerApple parameter. I looked for docs, but it seems that the Firebase docs haven't been updated for this new syntax.
This leaves me stuck...now of course, it could be something else, but the error is very specific, I've never gotten an error like that. So is it the new syntax that I have to use, and if so, what's the correct way to do it so that my app correctly goes for App Attest (which is registered properly). Note that I tried running this in release mode from Xcode, Flutter, and I also tried the TestFlight release build, all of which failed.

Complying With ‘Demand’ From Trump Administration, Apple Removes ICEBlock From App Store It’s rather chilling to consider what Apple would have done if the Trump administration had “demanded” a list of device IDs and user identities for everyone who had installed ICEBlock. Or what Apple *will* do if such a demand pops into one of their dimwitted but cruel minds.
