We can all relate to feeling completely overwhelmed by the amount of information that's thrown at you in the first few weeks of the semester.... ...and that's why STS is so excited to partner with the UC Berkeley Student Learning Center to ease that transition for this year's Summer Bridge cohort! This morning we set up an STS pop-up in the SLC, where students could pick up STEP laptops, get drop-in tech support, and even get their laptops cleaned/dusted! Not to mention we're always giving away our coveted swag 😎 Where should we pop-up next? 😮

🎊 Happy 2026! As we gear up for the new semester, we wanted to share one way our teams celebrated the holidays together last year. 🍪 STS hosted a potluck that brought staff together over delicious homemade dishes and great conversation. It was a fun, relaxed way for teammates across different groups to connect, strengthen relationships, and enjoy our office space filled with holiday spirit. We’re excited to carry this sense of connection into the new year, with even more opportunities for team bonding ahead! #happynewyear #studentstaff #techservices #ucberkeley #potluck

"Unfortunately, people are taking advantage of overworked and tired job seekers. We must do what we can to protect one another." Shoutout to STS Alum Rhyu Olide for sharing how he recently identified and avoided a cybersecurity scam from a fake recruiter!
I recently came across a job scam from a "recruiter" looking to fill a marketing manager position. Luckily, because of my past experience working with UC Berkeley Student Technology Services, I'm well aware of cybersecurity scams & was able to navigate them appropriately. This is how it happened: 1. I received a seemingly normal email asking to chat & I gave my availability. 2. They sent me the Zoom link through an email (first 🚩) instead of a Google Calendar invite. 3. I went to click on the link before the "interview," which I was then prompted to download an "update" (second 🚩), which I assume was probably malware. 4. I immediately declined the download and updated my Zoom within the application. 5. I copied and pasted the link to which Zoom said was not valid. 6. Upon informing the "interviewer" that the link was invalid, they told me to follow the instructions in the email to download the update (third 🚩), and this is what confirmed it was a scam. 7. I sent them an email saying it was up to date and sent them a Zoom link from my end, to which they didn't reply (fourth 🚩). 8. Just for safety, I called the company, to which they informed me it was indeed a scam. I'm making this post to raise awareness, as I know many people haven't experienced this and won't be so lucky as I was to recognize the signs. Unfortunately, people are taking advantage of overworked and tired job seekers. We must do what we can to protect one another. Trust your gut. If something ever feels suspicious, it's probably because it is. For all the Cal students in my network, here's a link with some tips: https://lnkd.in/g7kq4PnF Stay safe, everyone!
