Bringing impact through sustainable energy innovations and enterprises
About us
Sustainable energy practitioners have long noticed energy access affects rural and urban populations’ livelihood, generation capacity, education attendance, health outcomes and overall quality of life. In response, SELCO India (for profit, social enterprise) created SELCO Foundation on 5th October, 2010 as a public charitable trust, with the mission to: 1. Systematically identify diverse needs of underserved communities, understand and define the role of sustainability and energy in these communities. 2. Create and support innovative and sustainable solutions that positively impact well-being, education and livelihoods and work towards the alleviation of poverty. 3. Foster ecosystem development in the social sector through holistic thought processes in technology, finance, entrepreneurship and policy. SELCO Foundation envisions a socially sustainable society: we seek to create avenues for asset building, enhancement in quality of life and wealth creation that will uplift deprived sections of society through sustainable development solutions. It uses soft funding and flexible capital to develop robust and field-proven technological and financial models in the field of energy and sustainability. It aims to generate public awareness about these models, while also building the ecosystem for the creation and delivery of such solutions. The foundation supports replication and utilization of these models in other deprived regions of India and the world, thereby achieving greater leverage on resources.

A powerful truth is echoing across the discussions at the Regional AIM Incubator Conclave today: to build true resilience, we must design closer to the communities. The breakthrough solutions to our most critical livelihood challenges don't need to be invented from scratch—the innovations are already taking place right here. All we need to do is look around. The unique terrains, microclimates, and cultural contexts of the Northeast have naturally birthed deeply resilient, grassroots technologies. To honor this ingenuity and bring it to a national stage, AIC SELCO Foundation and Solutions Portal are proud to launch our new campaign brief, dedicated to mapping and scaling local technology providers across Northeast India. Whether it is processing machinery for high-value crops like ginger and turmeric, climate-controlled animal husbandry systems, or energy-efficient textile tools, these technologies are built to endure. And because they can thrive under the demanding conditions of the Northeast, they hold the inherent power to transform underserved communities across the entire nation. The effort is towards bridging the gap between local impact and pan-India markets. Are you a technology provider or innovator based in the Northeast? Feature your climate-smart, energy-efficient innovations on a national digital marketplace. Let the country note your solutions, connect with social enterprises, and scale your impact. 👉 Register your innovation today: https://lnkd.in/dG5YMqmi #AIMSumvaad #NITIAayog #AtalInnovationMission #NortheastInnovation #SustainableLivelihoods #ClimateSmartTechnology #CleanEnergy #GrassrootsInnovation Atal Innovation Mission Official | Deepak Bagla | Prateek Deshmukh | Vitasta T. | GOPI KRISHNAKANTH ADDANKI | Thumu Bharath Simha Reddy | Misba Suroor | Axis Bank Foundation | Solomon J Manohar | Harshvardhan Dhawan | Dhruvi Shah | Ashraya Hastha Trust | Vikram Patel | Sonya P. | CDSL - Central Depository Services India Ltd | Nehal Vora | Vinay Madan | Surbhi Singhvi | Sony | Vinutha Raja | Muthuraj Adiga | IKEA Foundation | Waverley Street Foundation | The Lemelson Foundation | The DOEN Foundation | Good Energies Foundation

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐑𝐞𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧. This Pride Month, we celebrate LGBTQIA+ workers and entrepreneurs who are transforming adversity into opportunity and building pathways to a more inclusive and resilient future. On the last day of the month, we spotlight a last-mile story of inclusion. From 𝐊𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡, 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫, shares a powerful journey of perseverance and reinvention. After years of navigating uncertain livelihoods in Bengaluru and later working in a hotel, Manjunath aspired to build a future through self-employment and financial independence. With support via loan from the #UdyoginiScheme, in collaboration with SELCO Foundation and the Department of Women and Child Development, Karnataka, Manjunath established a 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐱, 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬. What began as a small enterprise has grown into a thriving business, earning up to INR 15,000-20,000 (USD 158-211)/month while supporting their family and inspiring others in the transgender community to pursue entrepreneurship. Manjunath says, "𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐈'𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠. Heat stress and unpredictable weather are no longer distant challenges. They are now part of everyday farm life, affecting animals, milk quality, and livelihoods. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲! Across the dairy value chain, climate-smart technologies are transforming how milk is produced, processed, and delivered. From cool-roof dairy sheds with lights, fans, and foggers that keep animals comfortable, to hydroponic units (soil-free water-based growing system) that ensure year-round feed, to instant milk chillers and bulk cooling systems that preserve freshness, and reefer (refrigerated) vans that enable safe long-distance transport, each innovation helps close a critical gap in the system. Together, these solutions are not just improving efficiency. They are building a more resilient, reliable, and future-ready dairy sector.
