Reid Middleton

Yesterday, Senior Engineer, Frank B., presented at University of California San Diego for the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute 7th Kenji Ishihara Colloquium focused on Fault Rupture hazards. Reid Middleton is proud to participate in the discussion of critical advances in understanding and mitigating the effects of earthquakes. 

A brave group of golfers, including Eric Shimizu with DKS Associates along with Reid Middleton’s Ponce Capati, Casey Hansen, and Seth Stapleton, got rained on but still had fun at the Mount Vernon Public Schools Foundation Green & White Open last week. No matter the weather, we are happy to support this event that benefits educational opportunities for students!

This week, our engineers gave a presentation on structural engineering to the Project Girl Mentoring Program. The girls were able to learn about the dynamics of buildings and the importance of seismic resiliency. Using popsicle sticks and tape, the girls built a structure which was then tested for seismic resiliency on our shake table. These ladies seem destined to be engineers because all buildings survived the shake table testing! To really push the bounds of their structures, we placed books on the buildings to test their gravity capacity post-shake testing. All the buildings did great and were able to support 9-13 books! We are proud to support such an inspiring organization within our community!

Reid Middleton Everett staff and families gathered this week for some fun in the sun at their August Picnic Event. The evening was filled with friendly competition, caricatures, balloon art, and lots of laughs! Games included tug-o-war, relay races, and a water balloon toss that ended with a splashtastic throwdown! 

This week, Reid Middleton’s structural engineer, Seth Stapleton, attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Snohomish County, WA's Arlington Ops Center! Our team provided civil and structural engineering for this project. This has been a great experience working on the Design-Build team with Dykeman Architects, Hargis Engineers, Cornerstone General Contractors, Inc., and Fora Landscape Architects on this project. We are looking forward to seeing it in operation soon! 

Hurray! Hurray! It was opening day! Last week, our Waterfront Engineering Director, Willy Ahn, attended the City of Seattle's Grand opening of Pier 58. Pier 58 is a 50,000 SF waterfront park that features a sea-life themed playground, Native art displays, and will act as a civic event space. Reid Middleton provided Civil Design support, along with structural constructability review services for Jacobs. We are proud to be part of transforming the history and image of the Seattle Waterfront.

This afternoon, Reid Middleton’s Everett office enjoyed a sunny lunch with food from Carolina Smoke! Staff participated in an Ax-Throwing and Corn Hole tournament as the kick-off to our Summer Olympics!
