Celebrating #ArnoldPalmerKid Ava's successful kidney transplant at the Hewell Kids’ Kidney Center at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. ✨ Ava, 5-years-old, received a kidney transplant on August 3, and has been on dialysis for most of her life. In this condition, the heart’s mitral valve doesn’t close properly, causing blood to leak backward. Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Deepak Vivek, Dr. Michael Hanna, Dr. Johnathon Rodríguez-Ortiz, and our exceptional multidisciplinary team, patients now have access to this innovative alternative to open-heart surgery. The MitraClip is delivered through a small catheter, allowing physicians to repair the mitral valve without major surgery. It helps the valve close more completely, reducing symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue, and improving blood flow and heart function. For those at high risk for traditional surgery, this breakthrough offers patients a renewed quality of life and a quicker return to the activities they love.
