Not every career path requires a four-year degree — and Tennessee's students are proving it. 👷 🔧 Meta proudly presented Be Pro Be Proud TN Draft Day, connecting 500+ students with 30+ employers for on-the-spot recruitment into apprenticeships and careers in construction, electrical, and engineering — critical trades powering the buildout of Meta's global data center infrastructure. At the first Be Pro Be Proud TN Draft Day, we helped turn connections into careers. Since 2023, the Meta Gallatin Data Center has partnered with Be Pro Be Proud TN to engage over 50,000 students through immersive experiences using VR and other simulators. Inside the Meta El Paso Data Center: Meet our Facility Technical Manager 👋 Steve Kowalik went from working in nuclear, solar, and battery storage to leading technical teams at one of Meta's newest 1 gigawatt data center sites. Here's what stood out about making the move to tech: 🤔 What does a Facility Technical Manager do? “I lead the subject matter experts across electrical, mechanical, and controls. My day to day is focused on making sure our Facilities Operations team has the resources they need to execute preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues as they come up, and stay trained on the equipment and processes required to keep the facility operating reliably. Every day brings a new challenge and that’s what’s really fun, bouncing improvement ideas off the team, and refining them into great solutions.” ⚙️ On working in tech: “Other industries can be more traditional and slower to move. At Meta, everyone gets to contribute across the board — if you know something, you’re encouraged to contribute even if it’s not your specific area of expertise. 🌱 On career growth: “There’s a wealth of information available, and so many engineers and technicians who are experts in specific areas. Just being able to have conversations with them has helped me learn about things I didn’t even know existed. One big area is AI — Meta helped me learn how to build effective prompts and scale my impact.” 💡 His advice for anyone considering the leap: “I’d encourage anyone looking at Meta to consider their entire skillset and stay open to learning.
