Trusted Science for Safe Food
About us
Science, safe food, sustainability. EFSA is a decentralised agency of the European Union with headquarters in Parma, Italy. The agency was set up in 2002 following a series of food crises in the late 1990s to be a source of scientific opinions and advice on risks associated with the food chain. Our work forms the basis for the European policies and legislation in the food safety area. Our scientific remit covers: food and feed safety, nutrition, animal health and welfare, plant protection, plant health, and the possible impact of the food chain on the biodiversity of plant and animal habitats. EFSA employs around 565 staff members and works alongside over 1500 external experts. If you are interested in a career at EFSA and wish to contribute to food safety in Europe find more about our work and how to engage with EFSA here on LinkedIn or on our website. Disclaimer: We welcome your feedback but please be aware that we may not always be able to take part in discussions. 🐝 Did you know? Today is #WorldBeeDay — held to explore the essential role of bees and other pollinators in keeping people and the planet healthy, and the many challenges they face. It’s celebrated today in memory of Anton Janša, the father of modern apiculture and a pioneering beekeeper from Slovenia, a country with a long tradition of beekeeping. 🏷️🤔 As of 2025, there are 262 approved health claims for use across the EU. More than 70% of all health claim applications are rejected due to insufficient scientific evidence. 🛒✅ This means every claim you see on your food label has passed a scientific evaluation, giving you extra confidence in your choices at the store. 🍭 Sugar on labels: what does it really mean? When you see a sugar claim on a product, here’s what it actually tells you: ✅ Low in sugars – the product contains only a small amount of sugar ✅ Sugars-free – the product contains virtually no sugar ✅ No added sugars – no extra sugar has been added, but naturally occuring sugars like in fruit or milk may still be present. Next time you shop, check the label and know exactly what you’re eating! Learn more about food safety claims and labels with #Safe2EatEU 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_Cptexi
