A crucial connection is taking shape on Lone Mountain. The assembly and enclosure of the upper terminal of the Explorer Gondola is complete and will create the vital link between our new high-speed gondola and the iconic Lone Peak Tram. Built at high elevation with precise coordination and multiple teams, the terminal marks a major milestone. The completion of the upper terminal makes way for us to begin the rope-pulling process between the mid-station and upper terminal, where the gondola cabins will soon be turning as we quickly near winter. The Explorer Gondola will transform access for all skiers—from direct tram service at the top to a new beginner experience at the mid-station—while also opening summit access for foot passengers. “The new Explorer Gondola will serve as a base-to-peak corridor,” said Adam West, vice president of mountain operations. “It will have a major impact on skiing and bring more people into the wild environment we have up here.” Doppelmayr USA Jackson Contractor Group, Inc. Construction Milestone: Explorer Gondola Lower Terminal The future of Big Sky is taking shape. Structural work on the Explorer Gondola lower terminal is now complete, marking a major milestone in this transformational project. With foundations, steel framing, and pre-cast walls in place—and the terminal masts installed—we’re ready to begin the next phase: terminal installation. More than just a new building, this terminal represents a reimagined guest arrival experience. Located adjacent to parking, it will allow guests to walk directly from their vehicles to the gondola—bypassing the main base area and improving flow on peak days. Key features include: ✔️ Self-service ticketing and SkyCard pickup ✔️ADA-compliant elevator access ✔️Capacity to move over 3,200 skiers per hour With major concrete activities now complete, the foundational systems are ready to support a more efficient, inclusive, and elevated mountain experience. Last week, as part of our ongoing ForeverProject sustainability initiatives, Big Sky Resort team members participated in our bi-annual Mountain Cleanup Day to prepare the resort for summer♻️🚮 Boyne Resorts recognizes human-driven climate change as an urgent issue for the world, as well as for the Snow Sports industry. In early 2021, we formalized commitments to climate action and announced our ForeverProject. A majority of the towers for the new Explorer Gondola are now installed, forming the backbone of what will become a high-capacity, scenic gateway to the slopes. This complex operation involved precision helicopter placement across rugged terrain, with expert coordination between pilots and construction crews. Together, they’ve built the foundation for a gondola system designed to move over 3,200 skiers per hour—delivering comfortable rides and stunning views of Lone Peak.
