About us

We’re Building A Better World. We’re more than just a successful capital equipment and engineering solutions firm. We’re an organization fiercely committed to improving the lives of our team members across the globe. By providing meaningful work in an environment of care and compassion, we send them home fulfilled by their time with us, rather than drained by it. We understand what every human being on the planet desires: to know that who they are and what they do matter. As a business, we have a unique opportunity to let them know that they do. Through our Truly Human Leadership culture and personal growth initiatives, we help them become their best selves. And when we bring out their best, they give their best. To their work, their team members and friends, our customers and suppliers, the people in the communities in which they work and live, and--most important of all--to their families. And before you know it, a better job has helped build a better world!

"Most teams aren’t dysfunctional, toxic, or even misaligned. They work hard, show up, and do what needs to be done. But most teams are probably tired. Tired of carrying unspoken tensions, tired of accommodating unclear expectations, and tired of sacrificing innovation and creativity to keep the wheels turning... What we’ve seen—over and over—is that many cross-functional teams and immediate teams alike are functional but not flourishing. They’re moving fast, but unintended friction is slowing them down. They’re producing results, but often at the cost of clarity, energy, innovation, and their team members’ well-being. The missing piece? Often, a conversation about their team dynamics, or, how they work together. Not what’s being worked on, or who’s doing what, but how they show up, collaborate, and move forward as a team." On a new #TrulyHumanLeadership #Podcast, you’ll hear from Praisy Isaac and Emily Gauvain, experts on team building at Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute about how to improve your team dynamics to unleash their potential, not just for your business, but for themselves and each other. The way we lead impacts the way people live. As leaders, when we care for our team members in the workplace, they go home feeling happy and, ultimately, less stressed. Watch the video below to hear Nicole Kollman, Project Manager at BW Converting, share how our culture of care has positively impacted her life at work and at home.

For quite a while, I’ve quoted this statistic from a Gallup poll: The number one determinant of happiness is a good job, which is defined as meaningful work among people who you enjoy. Here’s another definition from Gallup: “A good job is an individual’s primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity — it establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen’s talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream.” As I’ve said over and over again, every one of us, no matter what our job or where we live, simply want to know that who we are and what we do matters. As leaders in business, we have the awesome responsibility to let people know that they do. We have a responsibility to recognize the inherent dignity in our people and honor that, not break it. We have a duty to create meaningful work for those within our span of care. We should cultivate caring, empowering environments in which our team members can come together to share their individual gifts—marry their passions to their skills— in the creation of value for themselves, for others, for the organization. We should do our best to help them see the joy and happiness that is realized from achieving our shared vision together. Meaningful work helps to honor and preserve our dignity. “Since coming to Barry Wehmiller, I think one of the most powerful things I've learned is what happens when we trust our people and create a safe space for them,” Joel said. "The way that people can blossom and show up with their skills and creativity and bring their gifts to make great things happen is something that I don't think you get when we're micromanaging, when we're overstressing our team, right?" Joel Williams is the President of CARR Biosystems, Barry-Wehmiller's company that makes cell handling platforms for global manufacturers in the cell & gene therapy, monoclonal antibody, recombinant proteins, vaccine and cellular agriculture segments. "As we begin to share the message of what it means to be a Truly Human Leader, to take the responsibility of leadership and be this great steward of people who have been entrusted to us… What I see, time and time again is that there are few role models that enable our future generations to be this way. And so, for me, it’s about how do we role model this way of being in the world? And it isn’t just at work, you know, it’s how we show up in every day life." If you simply use recognition as a management tactic or productivity hack, you’ll never experience its true value: knowing that you’ve touched the life of another person. At Barry-Wehmiller, we don’t recognize our team members to get more out of them; we do it because we want them to know that who they are and what they do matters. Today, we’re celebrating the team members who have made exceptional contributions to fulfilling our Team Member Expectations and Commitments — the winners of our Shine the Light Award: Brian Dowling; BW Converting; Green Bay, WI Caleb Dyer; Pneumatic Scale Angelus (BW Filling & Closing); Remote, USA Eric Rohlf; BW Integrated Systems; Loveland, CO Judy Nolan; BW Design Group; Boston, MA Tessa Cole; BW Design Group; Boston, MA
