Statement condemning Violence at the
Islamic Center of San Diego
The Islamic Center of Richmond (ICR) strongly condemns the horrific act of violence that took place at the Islamic Center of San Diego on March 18th.
We are heartbroken by the loss of life and deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of the security guard and two additional community members. We extend our sincerest condolences and solidarity to their families, loved ones, and the entire San Diego Muslim community during this time of immense grief and sorrow. Houses of worship should remain places of peace, prayer, and safety—never fear, hatred, or violence.
We especially honor the courage and sacrifice of the security guard whose heroic actions helped protect others during this devastating incident. His bravery in the face of danger reflects extraordinary selflessness and commitment to safeguarding the community. We ask Allah ﷻ to accept him and the other victims among the righteous, grant them the highest levels of Jannah, expand and illuminate their graves, forgive their shortcomings, and grant their families patience, strength, and comfort in this difficult time.
Allahummaghfir lahum warhamhum, wa ‘āfihim wa‘fu ‘anhum, wa akrim nuzulahum, wa wassi‘ mudkhalahum, waj‘al al-jannata mathwāhum. Allahumma alhim ahlihim wa dhawīhim as-sabr wa as-salwān.
(O Allah, forgive them and have mercy upon them, pardon them, honor their abode, expand their resting place, and make Jannah their eternal home. O Allah, grant their families and loved ones patience and comfort.)
This tragic event also serves as a painful reminder that hateful rhetoric and the normalization of anti-Muslim sentiment can contribute to environments where such mindless acts of violence become possible. Hate speech, dehumanization, and intolerance—whether directed at Muslims or any faith community—must be firmly rejected. Differences in faith or background should never be used to justify hatred, fear, or violence. We all share a responsibility to foster understanding, dignity, and mutual respect within our broader society.
We pray for the protection of all houses of worship and for peace and safety in every community. May Allah ﷻ protect our masajid, unite our hearts, and grant patience and healing to all those affected by this tragedy.
