This series will exist in a variety of formats with full film screenings and even festivals as well as discussions with clips or takes. This first event will feature a panel discussion and clips from Sinners and is scheduled intentionally to take place on the anniversary of the date the events in the film took place.
The Future is Watching: Sinners — A Night at the Edge of Tomorrow

We had an electrifying evening where art, imagination, and Afrofuturism converged. In honor of the date the events in the film Sinners take place, this special program moderated by Ramel Wallace, invited audiences to explore the film’s themes through the unique perspectives of four visionary creatives:
Ajani Brown, Africana Studies Professor at San Diego State University, brings cultural and academic insight into the film’s social and historical resonance.
Menefese Kudumu-Clavell, Independent Filmmaker, examines the cinematic craft, storytelling, and the power of visual narrative.
Hue Love, Visual Artist, offers a lens on symbolism, aesthetics, and the emotional architecture of Afrofuturist art.
Lonnie Lucas, Cosplayer, embodies character and creativity, connecting fandom, identity, and reimagined futures.
We experienced an evening of conversation, reflection, and community and steppped to the edge of tomorrow and asked: What does redemption look like in the future we are building?

I’m honored to share that I, Dr. LaWana travelled to Dakar, Senegal September 2025 to present at the Future Waves Conference and Festival—an incredible gathering at the crossroads of culture, innovation, and our shared future.
This journey was/is deeply meaningful to me, both personally and professionally. It was a chance to connect with visionaries from across the globe, to share my work, and to bring back inspiration and knowledge that will ripple through our community.
Thank you so much to everyone able to support. Your tax-deductible donations helped cover travel and lodging so I could focus on representing our collective dreams and stories on this world stage. I look forward to scheduling a convening to share some of what was learned and experienced.

In Amsterdam, we were thrilled to help produce the very first Afrofuturism Summit in the Netherlands and support the Vreden brothers as they launched their exciting Kickstarter Campaign for their graphic novel, Rise of the Mafu.
We also had the amazing opportunity to participate behind the scenes at the inaugural Afrofuturism Congress with 27 inspiring leaders from the Black Speculative Arts Movement worldwide!

Use Afrofuturism as a framework that leverages history as well as the present to inform visions of the future (as well as the past and the present) and encourage participants to reverse engineer pathways toward actions that lead most closely to desired future states.
