There's no getting away from Ozempic (and Wegovy and Mounjaro), the drug prescribed for type 2 diabetes that has become seemingly every celebrity's favorite weight loss trick. Even Oprah Winfrey, queen mother herself, has reportedly considered taking it. However, she says she decided against it because it would be too easy.
“Shouldn't we all just be more accepting of whatever body you choose to be in? That should be your choice,” Winfrey said on an Oprah Daily panel on weight, per People. “Even when I first started hearing about the weight loss drugs, at the same time I was going through knee surgery, and I felt, I've got to do this on my own. Because if I take the drug, that's the easy way out.” We should note that Winfrey is also a WW (formerly Weight Watchers) board member.
How much Oprah Winfrey weighs at any given moment has been a subject of public conversation for nearly 40 years now. It's what led to that infamous “wagon of fat” episode of her talk show in 1988, as well as the WW partnership to begin with. She is hosting talks about her “weight loss journey” to this very day.
Meanwhile, Ozempic's dramatic weight loss results may also come with side effects like premature facial aging and malnutrition, according to the The New York Times. Which is to say, there's no “easy” shortcuts when it comes to health, and we should all be a little more respectful of each other's choices.
